Curt Cignetti

Announcers said all other semifinal teams have 40+ players rated as 4 and 5* and IU has 8. Say what you will about NIL budget but that stat testifies to talent identification and coaching.
Also testifies to the power of the portal.

The Gophers may have more 4* players.
Just the way he stated matched to reality implies @Jack jones thinks the gophers have more talent.

He said
PJ would win 6 maybe 7 games with Indiana’s talent.

But PJ won 7 (or 8 if you count bowl) games with Minnesotas talent.

Jack jones with an absolutely delusional take to say the gophers have a better roster than Indiana

Also testifies to the power of the portal.
The power of knowing exactly what you need to make your team good and getting players that have proven they have those qualities on a college football field.

They called it production or potential on the broadcast and makes all the sense in the world for the portal.

Yeah and he is better at identifying the production that also has potential.

The broadcast also talked about guy who was d2 who had 42 catches going to James Madison.
He isn’t offering every d2 player with 42+ catches. He is offering the ones with potential.

His scouting is unreal.
The money of Indiana amplifies that edge because he can create and even deeper roster than he could at previous stops.
35 points from guys he brought to James Madison tonight.

If I was an NFL team I would almost be more interested in him as a GM than a coach but that’s probably insane to say

There’s got to a significant amount of scouting into the mentality of each player too. Every player is dialed in and working his ass off for the success of the team. It doesn’t appear that anyone is chasing glory, they’re all just there to win.

Not what I was saying at all. What I implied was that PJ and his staff would screw up, even this talent, and only win 6/7.

And speaking of Indiana and their coach. CC is my kind of guy. When asked when he would be looking at Miami, he replied, first I want to open a beer.

Indiana plays with a kind of confidence and pressure that seems to force less confident teams (tentative, micro-managed teams overly-in-awe of opponents) to make uncharacteristic mistakes. Indiana scored 21 points off of turnovers in the first half. Game over. Indiana also throws a lot of balls into tight coverage, but in ways (back shoulder) that give an NFL quality receiver a slight advantage in the contested catch. I hope Indiana runs Miami out of the stadium.

I know.
But they won 7 (8 including the bowl) with their talent

So you’re insane to think the gophers have more talent

If fleck would win 6 or 7 with indianas talent how would he win 7 or I with Minnesotas talent unless it was more?

No, for the brain dead, what I am saying is that the complete staff at Indiana is far superior to the Gophers. What they have accomplished is unbelievable. PJ and his staff wouldn’t come close to the championship game with Indiana’s talent. If they were coaching this Indiana team maybe 6/7 wins.

It is unreal that you are doubling down on not understanding logic

Holy shit you are dumb

Fleck couldn’t win 8 with Indianas roster but won 8 with Minnesotas

Can you count to 10 with shoes on?

Thank you for outing yourself as someone who eats through a straw

So I think maybe he thinks we have superior talent to Indiana and the only reason they are good is because of the coaching.....maybe.....I don't know :)

That is the implication of his statement

If he really thinks Minnesota is more talented than Indiana this year he should be committed

There are now widespread rumors that Indiana football is cheating.
Something about an elaborate scheme to hack into a commonly used tech used by many other teams that catalogs and stores digital video/audio of practice footage.
Think sign stealing on a much deeper level, leading to knowing what the opposition is going to do before they do it.
Despite the rumors circulating on social media, there is no evidence to support these claims at this time.

Sounds crackpot and like a bad excuse, which it probably is, but I tend to assume that stuff is happening at some level with the dollars at play.

Indiana just doesn't make mistakes very often. Pair that with a good offensive and defensive scheme and the "talent" gap goes away.

What talent gap?
They are going to have 8-9 guys drafted? What teams will have more?
Many of the guys on their roster might not have been overly highly rated out of high school but they have brought in 50+ transfers over the past 2 years and they are definitely not working with any sort of talent deficit no matter how some may want to spin it.

They have done a great job identifying the pieces they needed from the portal and have had the resources to go out and get them. Good coaching paired with an old, experienced, hand picked roster, has made it possible for them to do what they are doing.

But there is no talent gap between the guys Indiana is running out there compared to what the other playoff teams have.

It’s amazing to me that some people feel it’s an insult to Indiana coaches to say they have a lot of talent. It’s a compliment to their ability to scout better than others. And then develop

Yeah, there is this weird desire some have to make Cignetti out as some sort of miracle worker and acting like it has been business as usual at Indiana but he has managed to overcome that when no other coach has.

Cignetti is jerk but he is also clearly a really good coach and has surrounded himself with other really good coaches. That in combination with this current college landscape and a big influx of money into the football program to get players has allowed them to go out and assemble the roster they have which has them in position to do what would have seemed impossible a few short years ago.

He deserves a ton of credit for being able to identify the players he needed and then going out and getting them. They caught lightning in a bottle where everything has come together perfectly. But it also is highly likely that what Cignetti is doing at Indiana would not be happening if he had been hired there like 5 years ago under the old way of doing things.

He almost certainly would have been able to elevate Indiana to that same tier we live in which is below the Ohio State's of the world. But they wouldn't be doing what they are doing right now.

People who say this is happening because cignetti inspired them to believe it was possible are the actual people discounting cignetti’s coaching and scouting

Dude has his team executing at near perfection. And that’s not because of vibes, it’s because of focus and attention to detail + talent
