Recruiting

Do we think at this point, or even at the point of her very first practice with the Gophers, Coach P cares if GG was ranked 98th or 198th? I mean, most of us don't even remember and once she was in our gym, it was pointless to care.
Yeah, I totally agree. My original point was coming from the angle that the rankings only tell us how these players perform against high school players with high school coaches. They aren't that informative of how they will perform at the college level with college coaches.

Murray’s progression at Oklahoma will be interesting to watch. She improved her recruiting stock this summer to become a fringe top 100 player. Coach P, with her good recruiting eye, passed. Iowa offered at the 11th hour, but Murray passed on being a fall-back offeree.

Probably didn't want to follow in her cousin's footsteps.

Saw on twitter the Gophs had some recruiting visitors in town over the weekend. I scrolled too fast to get names but I think one was a 2028 and one might have even been a 2029. Wonder who else was all in town.

Saw this posted on the Iowa State board. Logan Miller picked up an offer.

Speculation is Bill Fennelly at ISU will retire after 2026-2027 so not sure an offer for 2028 is very competative versus an offer from the Gophers.

Presumably to be replaced by his kid, though, right?

Do we have a chance at her? Looks like she will be a top 50 recruit?

Next year we will have a ton of shooters. Space the floor, run, and shoot! I know we have I believe two open spots yet, but next year could be interesting.
Oehrlein, Paben (really have liked the videos I have seen from her) Kussow, GG, Christian, Braun, and McKinney! Just a ton of shooters!

If any of the three either Oehrlein, Kussow, or Paben can shoot it like Christian it should be alot of fun. My guess is that they can. Should be an all out running team.

Arrowhead, Wis beats Providence Academy, Minn. 94-83.

2026 Minnesota recruit Natalie Kussow with a game-best 41 points for Arrowhead. 2026 Kentucky recruit Maddyn Greenway led Providence Academy with 30 points
Yes, it was a very entertaining game. Coach P. was in attendance which was cool to see. Greenway has elite quickness/speed but Kusso seemed much more efficient and in control. She is a legit big-time scorer and will be fun to watch the next 4 years.

Next year with Kussow/Braun/McKinney/and GG that should give teams fits. How did Kussow's defense look?
An off season of development of Christian, get Woodson healthy and get some freshman minutes out of Oehrlein and Paben I don't see how this can't be at least a sweet 16 team. Biggest question is if they can find a scoring big in the portal. (My math could be off but I think they would have two open spots) Of course, this assumes everyone stays....

Area Girls Basketball: C-I's Oehrlein goes for 50 again

EAST CENTRAL — Tori Oehrlein poured in 50 points for Class 2A’s second-ranked Crosby-Ironton Rangers as they cruised to an 83-40 Great River Conference victory over the East Central Eagles Thursday, Jan. 8.

Tori is going to be one heck of a contributor to this program.

Saw on twitter that one of the Wilson sisters have visits set for Nebraska, Iowa, and TCU. I don't know what coach P has to do but we need them both at the U.

Don't see we have even offered Mya? In 3 years we have got 1 MN recruit(Tori). Tori O next year will make 2! Guess you have to have the name Tori! :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: Amisha Ramlall is 2027 committed for 3rd. Otherwise missing on all others which is a concern. Some might be because we have the core now and they all want to play right away. Addi Mack has got the opportunity to start and run the point for Maryland. Crump went to Texas and Ode went to Michigan State(injured I believe). Year before Olson was big one to Michigan. Greenway going to Kentucky. Some players probably want to go out of state for experience too.

Players have a lot of reasons for choosing one school over another, and a lot of girls do not want to stay home. They want to go somewhere new and exciting. They have done some travel for AAU, and have seen some things, and want to experience more of that. I think that we need to focus on getting the best players in the nation, not just the best Minnesota players.

But who wants to go to Iowa? Lol kidding.

When it comes to Mya Wilson, I can guarantee you and confirm that she has an offer and the Gophers are strongly recruiting her. She is likely their top 2027 target remaining. At this time, they have Amisha Ramlall committed and two spots left after that for the 2027 class. This could change, but I get the feeling they want Mya Wilson or bust, and if she goes elsewhere, they will use the two spots for portal players.

Mya, her sister Ashlee (top 2030 in the state), and Ari Peterson were in the arena on Sunday when they played against USC with their high school teams. I would say Gophers have as good a shot as any at Mya Wilson.

Now, Yes it would make sense for Iowa to recruit a top 75 kid nationally and the top player in MN for the 2027 class. That doesn’t mean it’s over. Grace, Mara, Kussow, and Oehrlien all had Iowa, Maryland, and teams like that offer.

On this “not keeping kids home,” I strongly encourage people to realize that there is so much nuance in where players go. Like for 2027, there likely will be D1, possibly power four players rated lower than Mya Wilson and Amisha Ramlall (Gopher Target and Gopher Commit), but it’s not a “loss” if they are not going after them. Players have to fit the style and team both on and off the court. In terms of Jordan Ode, it was neck and neck between the Gophers and Michigan State. Maddyn was never staying home, but also didn’t pick Iowa; she wanted to go a different route. Crump moving to Florida for the last year of high school was a dead giveaway that she had no ties to the state.

Addi Mack does not fit the team off the court, and I’m okay not having someone who brings the attitude and entitlement off the court to the team. Like to remind everyone, look at their loss to Ohio state, Illinois, and how she played against the Gophers when Tori McKinney was on the court (all but 3rd quarter)

And for reference, here are the known in-state offers:

2027:

Offered/In-State:

Mya Wilson,
6’0 G, Hill-Murray HS

2028:

Offered/In-State:

Chloe Johnson,
6’0 PG, Duluth Marshall (ESPN- Terrific 25-#3)

Ari Peterson, 6’1 W, Minnetonka (ESPN-Terrific 25-#25)

Sahara Wilson, 6’2 P, Lakeville North

Logan Miller, 6’3 P, Andover HS

2030:

Offered/In-State:

Ashlee Wilson,
6’1 G, Hill-Murray HS

**and they have a strong 4-5 top priority list of in-state 2029s.

Thanks for the info!

. . .

Love your recruiting and other program info. You bring more of that than any other poster. But unless I missed things, the description of Grace having Iowa, Maryland and teams like that offer is way off. Do you have a source for that? You may very well know more than what I know just from reading. I thought the story with Grace is that it showed Coach P’s recruiting eye, seeing upside with Grace (and Tori) that others missed.

When Grace first committed to ASU, the Arizona newspaper reported that “Grocholski's other scholarship offers included Providence, Green Bay, St.Louis University and IUPUI. She committed to ASU after a recent visit in Tempe.”

When Grace committed to West Virginia, the Milwaukee newspaper reported “Grocholski committed to the Mountaineers but also considered Wisconsin, Butler and Providence.”

When she flipped to Minnesota to follow Coach P, the stories in the Milwaukee and Twin Cities newspapers did not report other new offers.

wbbblog does not list Grace as having been an Iowa or Maryland recruiting target.

Great information. Some supplemental info to.othwrs for.contwxt.

-Madyn Greenway was in a tough spot, pressure to.go.to Iowa, Minnesota, almost anywhere she wanted.

Kentucky was 2-14 two.seasons ago and now surging. They are I think #7 in AP 25 now. She steps into a program.she can help define as a new winner. And she got properly valued there. Greenway is not a loss to Gophera, she made the right move.

Tori Oehrlein coming next season is one to watch she has narrowed the gap with Greenway for best 2026 player in the state. We all know high school players are hard to.predict once in the NCAA and she could turn out to be upside surprise big. She just put up.50 points

Mya Wilson is best 2027 MN.prospect. Would be nice. Would also be nice if fan base was larger and lots of fans willing to send $75 each to Gophers NIL. Need to.prime the pump by winning to be able to win. I am willing to send in something if they are legit.

Again, Mara Braun's continued recovery to get her shot back is a key piece. Hot shooting guards sell.tickets.

Tori McKinney was known as a defensive player with some uncertainty due to her injury and not that super of a shooter.. Her shooting well now is a pleasant surprise, now a complete player. Right now as a.complete player she must be a prime target to be stolen away with NIL. I hope Gophers keep her. She is ultimate or coach Dawn P's system that emphasizes defense, effort, and working it hard to get the shot.

GG is another great foe for the Coach Dawn P system that emphasizes shooting from the wings hut also have to.play the trademark strong D of Coach Dawn P. Mara's game has become more complete and Braun is the potential best player, a stay, yet Grace brings almost everything you would want from a wing for what this system is trying to do.

SORRY TYPOS AND COULD BE CLEARER, FROM MY PHONE PROBABLY SHOULD EDIT

There was a big gap between Maddyn and TO last year… when they played each other Greenway was out to prove who the best player was on the court… relentless and competitive … TO not so much.. played hesitant didn’t want that smoke.. also a gap in athleticism.. IMO
