SEC Bias: This is a reminder that LSU these last 5 years is the same as Minnesota, just with a lot more AP votes and more FCS wins.

The more the SEC loses in the bowls, the more this goes away. I think a lot of the AP voters care about this stuff less than we do. They do what's easy. I also think they watch a lot of the bowls so that will heavily influence them going into next year.
No it won't. If a B1G beats an SEC team (or if an SEC loses in general), it's because of the players that opted out for the draft and the players that entered the portal.

It is interesting how the SEC kool aid is served so regularly and at such high quantities, you can actually see it being regurgitated in small amounts on Gopherhole. It can't be denied that it is effective, because it shows in any/every non-objective human opinion based poll.

I get a kick out of SEC logic.

"The SEC is the best conference!"
- Really, then why are things so balanced in bowl games and head to head in playoffs or regular season?

"Well, the SEC wins all the national championships"
-The B1G has won a few, especially since paying players went visible above boards.

"Yeah, but that is just because the B1G has one great team"
Actually the B1G has had multiple National championships and has advanced several different schools in the new national playoff.

"Yeah, but the B1G isn't as deep as the SEC. It just has a few good teams at the top."
-How do you explain Indiana then? A perennial B1G doormat winning the conference? Or Illinois looking pretty good last year with a bowl win vs heavily favored S. Carolina?

"Well, they just don't have to face a gauntlet like the SEC. B1G teams would all have more losses if they had to face a gauntlet like that!"
- If it were such a gauntlet, wouldn't the SEC look better in bowls and playoff vs teams from other conferences? 11-1 Texas A&M just lost in the playoff to a two loss Miami team, at home!

"That is just because A&M avoided all the best SEC teams and only had to play bottom teams this season."
-But wait, you just said it was a "gauntlet" but now there are teams that can skate through nearly undefeated by avoiding the top teams on the conference schedule?

"Umm, ... "
- And furthermore, middling B1G teams regularly beat favored SEC teams in bowl games.

"Well, that is because the SEC is sooooo tough that the teams are beaten up by bowl season and the focus is on the conference season"
- Yeah, but they are still losing a lot of these bowl games after a month or more rest, and isn't there a phrase that says something about 'it just means more'?

"Umm, ..., Well, LSU would KILL Minnesota because look at all the four and five stars!
- How do you know that?

"because... S... E... C...!!!"
- That sounds a lot like a hypothetical victory, which is strictly opinion, and again - look at all the SEC bowl losses, playoff losses, and regular season losses where the results indicate parity, not superiority with other power conferences?

"Yeah, 'we' win all our hypothetical matchups!"
- You do, but that isn't reality, right?

"It IS reality! SEC! SEC! SEC! In fact, here is an obscure statistic that proves the Mississippi cheerleading squad would beat Illinois if they were to play in person."
- That doesn't really prove anything. Wouldn't Illinois have to actually play the Mississippi cheerleading squad to get proof?

"SEC! SEC! Finebaum! SEC! ESPN! SEC!"
Thanks Sybil 😉

Big difference between saying they’ve had similar W/L results in a 5 year stretch and saying they’re similar programs too
You are what you put on the field.

Minnesota does the same with less than what LSU does with more.

LSU gets credit for beating two top 7 teams during that stretch: Ole Miss #7 who finished 8-5 and Clemson #4 who finished 7-6.

Easy to move up the rankings when you beat Ole Miss, get credit for a top 10 win, and then get viewed as a top program.

We now have two SEC teams without a win against any FBS teams with a winning record. Missouri and Tennessee.

I would be interested to see how often Missouri was ranked before and after joining the SEC.

Shame on USC for raining on the B1G bowl party.

You forgot to SEC-ize it and mention all the opt outs for USC and that their D coordinator left the team to be at PSU

Go Gophers!!
yup and they go out and hire best coach in college football possibly and get a boatload of money to spend on players plus THEY DONT HAVE AND NEVER WILL HAVE ABSOLUTLEY ELEMENTARY MINDS AT DC AND OC. They want to WIN .... We obviously are interested in not that.

Brian Kelly won 34 games at LSU over the past 4 seasons. And he was fired for it.

PJ won 27 over the same span and is considered the greatest coach we’ve had in 70 years and people want to build a statue of him.

— Fleck has actually won 31 games in the last 4 seasons. 9-4, 6-7, 8-5, 8-5.

— Can you point me to the posts in which people say they want a statue of Fleck built? I don't recall any such posts.

— Are you advocating that we should fire Fleck? I don't want to put words in your mouth, but you seem to admire the way LSU handled the Kelly situation.

— Fleck is quite clearly the best Gopher coach since Warmath, according to the won/lost record.

I propose we build a statue of PJ.

Crowd surfing.

There we got that one out of the way.

Man, don't let facts get in the way of a good hyperbolic rant.

LSU has had some wild swings.

15-0 and won natty in 2019, then self-imposed bowl ban for ... get this ... paying players! ... in 2020, then 2021 finish 6-7 with Orgeron stepping down. Then from 2022-25, Kelly goes 10-4, 10-3, 9-4 ... then 7-6 this year, fired. EDIT: Kelly himself went 5-3 (2-3 in SEC play) this year and got fired, the rest was not him

Thanks for pointing out that LSU is a better program than MN the last 25 years

I don’t know
You’re telling me for the first time

I counted Fleck’s wins until Kelly was fired this year. In a head to head comparison it would be disingenuous to credit Fleck with wins when Kelly wasn’t coaching.

No, I won’t spend time scrolling through posts to show who wants a statue built of Fleck. And no, I don’t think he should be fired. My point that I believe most people understood is that the expectations are significantly higher at a powerhouse school like LSU, compared to Minnesota where mediocrity is viewed as admirable. Hence the point: Kelly had a better record playing against better opponents and was fired, while Fleck basically has a lifetime contract because sadly he’s the best coach we’ve had in 60 years.

Got it Murray? And how is that rash healing up?
