Per Greder:

“Saying that, ‘Oh, bowl games are dead,’ and taking bowl games away, I don’t think is very healthy. I don’t,” Fleck said last week. “I’m a huge advocate of bowl games. How we structure them from here on out, and what that looks like, and what conferences team up to do it, I think could be really interesting as we move forward.”

Go Gophers!!

The biggest problem with the bowl games is that, somehow, the B1G used to have the best bowl contracts and now it has the worst of all the P4 conferences.

That’s the biggest problem with the bowl games?

I’d say that’s like the 21st biggest problem.

Go Gophers!!

I think they should get rid of 8-10 of the bowls and make teams have a minimum of 7 wins to participate. Its just watered down so much.

I'd like to see something with the SEC where we seed the non playoff teams, top seeds go to Orlando, two seeds go to Tampa, three seeds to the gator bowl. Four seeds to Nashville. Fifth seed goes to Memphis, six seed to Charlotte etc.
Due to the bias of the SEC, the problem becomes the SEC 1-5th seeds go to the CFP - the 6th and 7th SEC seeds boycott the bowl games because they were "robbed" - and we are left with 6-6 SEC teams (where half the team chooses not to participate as they prepare for the portal/draft or have just fired their head coach)

No one is forced to watch any particular game. Some enjoy watching Kennesaw State and Mobile Barbers College square off in a late December game. Eliminating the crap bowls doesn't make the Rate Bowl any more attractive.

I agree no one is forced to watch anything, and it does not make the Rate Bowl any better. Still think there are too many bowls and teams with non-winning records participating. Just my opinion though...

What would that help?
Is it teams 75-80 with a ton of guys opting out?
Or team 13-40?

I see no upside?

Great the JV teams will get practice cause 90% of the starters would sit out.
Yeah with guys opting out of one bowl game I would think the problem would be worst for 13-29 playing a 4 game exhibition tourney

Not saying it would help. I was giving an opinion on bowl games and how I don't like the face that there are lots of teams without winning records playing in them. It's just my opinion.

I think that bowls should be a reward for a good season. I don't think that 5-7 or 6-6 is a good season in most cases.

But as long as they make money and people watch them they will be there.

did not read thread or original post, I assume “gopher leaders” here meant @GophersInIowa and I whole heartedly support whatever idea proposed i.e poptart mukbang for losing head coach of poptart bowl etc.

if you’re really upset that a 6-6 team is in a bowl game I don’t think you’re actually going to feel better when they aren’t.

I am hardly upset. Just would change it if I had a more ideal situation. Not sure where you got I was upset about it.

Keep as is. The NCAA, the networks, and advertisers need to think of the guys stuck with their in-laws over the holidays who will do anything to avoid playing another game of Phase 10, Nerts, or Catan.

Well you indicated the games are watered down
Which to me I took as you feeling like you can’t get as much enjoyment out of it.
Sorry that happened to you

I’m just saying I don’t think Utah state vs Washington state being canceled would really feel that much more excitement about other bowl games.

Maybe you mean something different when you say watered down than I would mean if I said it

Yeah does not upset me, just is kinda meh...

No biggie. Go Gophers!

Bowl teams should be able to draft players from non bowl teams or opt outs like town team baseball. Fill in some holes left by players opting out.

Also, conferences and the bowls shouldn't be afraid of conference matchups. With the conferences getting ever larger, why not match up a couple of B1G teams that didn't meet in a conference game? I'd find that more interesting than any MAC team.

I like this because there has developed a good dislike between SEC fans and B1G fans. Basically a north vs south rivalry.

It is possible that second idea may happen
I’m super curious to see what the bowl tie ins are next year

PAC 4 getting added to big ten tie ins. Big ten will need more

Yeah...not sure what that was.
Here is the breakdown. Exclude the teams that make the playoff, seed the remaining bowl eligible teams. For example this year the match ups would be
USC vs Texas (Citrus bowl in Orlando or whatever it's called now)
Michigan vs Vanderbilt (Reliaquest bowl Tampa)
Iowa vs Missouri (Gator Bowl Jacksonville)
Washington vs Tennessee (Music City Bowl Nashville)
Illinois vs LSU (Liberty Bowl Memphis)
This year because the big ten a better league we have two more bowl eligible teams than the SEC despite there so called dominant league getting two more playoff teams. I would also be fine moving locations or swapping a couple out for different locations but I do think the big ten and SEC five best non playoff teams should play each other. As for Minnesota, Penn State, Nebraska and Northwestern, being a P2 teams they are just take the best bowl invite you can get in that scenario and make fun of the SEC for not having enough quality teams in their allegedly dominant conference where it just means so much more
