I was wrong

I thought the Gophers wouldn't win a game in the B10.
You can see it. You can see Niko's coaching ability.
They still have an absolute dearth of talent but if he can get some players, Gopher basketball will have the Barn rocking again.

Not one? There are some bad teams in the B1G. Northwestern, Penn St Rutgers etc. there is enough talent if if they were healthy to start the year.

Did you watch UW Green Bay, San Francisco and Santa Clara games?
I'm glad I was wrong.

Did you watch Pitino's 3rd season and Johnson's second? They were terrible teams but they each won 2 regular season conference games. A Big Ten team hasn't gone winless in conference since Northwestern in the 1999-2000 season.

This is a team that clearly knows what it's doing out there. That's coaching. The reason they won tonight is that they converted the good looks the offense gave them into points by making open shots and, with the exception of a few early and late possessions, made Indiana work for baskets.

I really appreciated their composure. There were moments when things could have snowballed out of control, but they managed to avoid compounding mistakes (for the most part) and showed a lot of poise. Ski-U-Mah!

UWGB was awful, but USF SC are good teams that have a decent shot to make it to the tournament. If we shoot FT like we did the 2nd half vs USF i think we win that game.

Again we are not going to be a top half of the league team just purely on talent, but I also think unlike the last what 13 years, we might actually improve during the season due to non inept coaching.

Fortunately I was not able to watch the Santa Clara game but admit it may have been a low point and needed a beverage or two to get over it. Have the right coach, just can’t believe the injuries/personal reasons.
I was at the Santa Clara game. Was 6 rows up, so had a pretty good view. That's a pretty good team with a well-respected coach that seems to win wherever he goes. One thing that stood out to me in that game is that Santa Clara plays defense the way that most coaches wish their team played defense. They move their feet, play physical, stay in front of their assignment in the open court and have quick, active hands with-out fouling very much. I watched them do the same thing on a TV game against Xavier earlier in the year. They did the same thing against St. Louis the night before the Gophers game, but lost at the end. It took the Gophers about 30 minutes to adjust and rise to the challenge. I'm betting that Niko is hoping that he can get the Gophers to that level of defensive intensity on a consistent basis this season or next.

Good analysis; thank you!

Thought ball movement was better than I’ve seen from the Gophers for some time. Defense considering we were so undersized was good as well.

Santa Clara would be a mid-tier team if they were in the B1G and San Francisco would win more than a few games too.
Those two could pull off an upset here and there, but they would get buried in a 20 game BT schedule. Not a chance Santa Clara would be on the top half of the league.

Great win for Minnesota. Need to do it more times to prove it is sustainable, imo.

That same season, 2015-16 Rutgers also almost ran the table in reverse. They were 0-17 and beat the Gophers who fell to 2-16 in the Season Finale at the RAC.

Just a few weeks earlier the Gophers had beat them at the Barn, but for the game in NJ they were without a few of their better players.

Gonna agree to disagree with you here...
San Fran just lost to North Alabama.
Santa Clara was only beating Utah Tech by 7 with 1:30 to go last night....
IMO they'd both get curb-stomped in the B10

Agree.

San Fran has been a major disappointment. Santa Clara is off to a good start. Either way, in no world are they middle (7-12) Big Ten teams. If there still were a Weakling Wednesday, they’d be fighting to avoid it every season.
