***OFFICIAL MINNESOTA VS SANTA CLARA THIRD-PLACE IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

Remeber this day, when a big ten team got blown out by 30 by Santa Clara.
Santa Clara is a solid team in what has been one of the best mid-major conferences for many, many years now. This still doesn’t hold a candle to when the Gopher football team lost to Bowling Green when they were favored by 600 points

The whole "woe is us" line is just plain crap.
There isn't a single solitary reason this program can't be successful.
1,000%.

The guy I sit next to at football games leaned over to me earlier this year and said PJ is probably the best we can do. I just looked at him and said bluntly, "I don't buy that bullshit."

I'm tired of the fatalistic attitude. It is possible to be BOTH academically AND athletically top shelf. It is not an OR statement.

Time to hire Terrible Terry Tate to start motivating people properly.

For those talking about money/recruiting, listen we aren't totally in the poor house but we aren't a team that can miss on 3-4 guys and be elite. Clearly Niko can identify talent, but when you are consistently having to replace 8-10 guys there are going to be misses. Yes it makes it easier to take a leap quickly, but you can also have some poor seasons.

This season looks tough but let's hope that isn't consistent.

In the parlance of the "love languages" book, your love tank was low going into this new regime, and it didn't take long for that to be exhausted. It's how we're all feeling.
This is a very accurate statement. I wish it wasn't true. It doesn't help watching MI and Purdue play beautiful basketball and then tuning into the Gophers.

Gophers are out scoring Santa Clara in the 2nd half.
Where's Mr USAF with his "woe is us" personality?

Shinholster is the lone bright spot tonight outside of Tyson. Can we bring Ben back as a recruiter?

Fun fact. Santa Clara was founded the same year as The University of Minnesota

This is mostly from exhaustion and dead legs. Two games, back to back, with an undermanned squad and you get 13% shooting.
LOL.
The "exhausted" Gophers "win" the 2nd half.
Your keen insight is enviable.

We’ve generally spaced the court well in the tournament. That’s a bit of progress. Rebounding; ball-handling; shooting have been a struggle. Defense has been ghastly at times. Finished decently & with energy & great to see the rookies make some shots.

OF COURSE, the one time I shut it off when the deficit was 30, the final score was 86-75. SHAME ON ME

OK, let's be clear...I'm the one saying the entire "woe is us we can't compete" line of bullshit is, well, bullshit. We SHOULD be able to compete.

And BTW, I'm in awe of your keen basketball wisdom that posts "poor exhausted Gophers" and then follows it up 5 minutes later praising the Gophers for winning the 2nd half.

Asuma also played his best half of the year. He has to take action and make some shots for us.
Yes he does. Being the lone ball-handler can physically take a lot out of you but he had a solid game

As ugly as that game looked- it boiled down to how the two teams shot the threes. We were 7-24 and they were and 16-31. We out rebounded them, turnovers about even. They got 27 more points on threes.

Likely too small a sample size against an opponent which lost its focus but the rookies with Asuma/Tyson/Durkin played an effective five minutes. They ran some nice sets.

Kid ended up with 7 rebounds
He plays hard and has skills. He needs 20-25 minutes a game and he will only gain confidence. He's going to be a really nice building block for Niko.

If necessary I'd start him over Reynolds. I think Reynolds is better coming off the bench and is less of a human turnover machine.

Correct me if I am wrong. We won the 2nd half and cut a 31 point deficit down to 11. Is that not competing?
You're being a debbie downer "woe is us" we can't win with this coach complainer. Every game this team competes. Unfortunately, this team hasn't won the last few games and tonight our compete was down by 31 at one time. But, this team certainly did compete.
Now, look in the mirror and see yourself as the most vocal "we can't win" person on this board.
