Kansas and Minnesota last met in November of 2013. A 70-59 Gopher victory improved Minnesota’s record versus the Jayhawks to 4 wins and 14 losses. Rachel Banham led the scoring with 26 points followed by Micaella Riche with 20 points; but Amanda Zahui provided the headline triple double: 11 points, 10 rebounds and 10 blocks.

KU was coached by Bonnie Henrickson who lasted one more season before being dismissed and replaced by current head coach Brandon Schneider. Henrickson was fired after her 11th season and two NCAA appearances. Schneider is now in his 11th season which includes two NCAA appearances. And following a 16-14 (6-12 conference) 11th place finish in the Big 12 the 11th year alarm bells are sounding.

With Minnesota looming, Kansas is 4-0 with wins over Kansas City 74-64, Northwestern State 75-60, Lamar 65-54 and Missouri 82=77. This is a “how are we doing” game for both teams.

Schneider’s a plan to put the Jayhawks back in flight? Surround 6’0 All Big 12 junior guard S’mya Nichols with some talented fire power. Nichols can play positions 1-4 (the Jayhawks don’t really utilize a anchor post). And if the Missouri game is any indication Nichols will handle the ball a lot, score 20 points, grab 5 rebounds dish 7 assists.

The goal is to ramp up the offense especially from three. The surrounding players Include some five and four star recruits who are sorting out their role. and features a couple of familiar names. 6’3” senior guard Elle Evans transferred to KU after a year at North Dakota State. Evans scored 20 points with 4 rebounds in 37 minutes against Missouri. She has the green light from beyond the arc.

Another 6’3” senior is forward Lily Meister. The Indiana transfer had 8 points and 6 rebounds in 25 minutes against Missouri.

Given the upgrade in the opponent’s size and speed, It should be a fun and challenging evening in Rock Chalk’s temple.

Could be a small ball (or, I guess, medium ball) opportunity for the Gopher women?

Watched Kansas over the weekend play Missouri. Physical team and have some young talent.

if you get
Espn in your sports package you can go to the Espn app. it will want you to pay for the package but it should say sign up through your provider. there should be a drop down list of providers click on your provider and get the package free. then you should get the game through the Espn app.

Depends on your "package", not all providers give you the "unlimited" which will include ESPN+.

Charlie Creme's bracketology from earlier today has both Minnesota and Kansas in the last four byes, with Kansas at a 9 seed and us at an 11 seed. I guess we'll get to see how that holds up tomorrow!

I’m curious to see if these outside analysts have us underrated or my opinion overrates our Gophers. So far I’m feeling towards being correct and these analysts have us underrated. 😅 I’ve certainly been wrong before, and really enjoying the start of this season so far! Kansas is a fun arena to play in - I’m looking forward to watching on tv tomorrow!

Coach P get errrrr done!

Looking forward to seeing this team on the road for the first time and how they match up against better compeition.

It is not very pretty basketball when the team feeds the ball to Hart on the inside. She struggles.

Just some terrible basketball after first quarter.
Kansas getting whatever they want with wide open shots.

Kansas looks like they are better coached and have better athletes. We look slow and never get players open. Kansas had a lot of good possession.

Well it's going about as I expected, at least they can tell their grandkids that they got a chance to play inside Phog Allen Fieldhouse.
