Indiana v Penn State, and Gus Johnson's voice!!

On one hand, I miss great voices from the past like Herb Carneal and Ray Christensen. They were so dignified and controlled most of the time, when they got excited it lent weight to the moment you were witnessing. Then there are guys like Kevin Harlan and Paul Allen. Harlan shouts all the time, every time something remotely interesting happens, and that repels me. And Allen is a screamer/shouter, which is just undignified.

But I like Gus, and I love his passion for competition. Where some professional announcers seem to be performers, he seems genuinely enthused. His yelling conveys joy.

I actually smile when I turn on a broadcast and find Gus doing play-by-play.

There are times I wish I could change my moniker because it's pretty much dated at this point. But then there are moments like this that I think I hit the fastball to the gap & did just fine. Haha.

I always said, he was fine for letting you know that Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop was going to be 2 hours late & no morning kindergarten classes. He should not have been near a play-by-play headset though. I almost wonder if he gets to do the high school basketball tournament because he offers to do it for free. There's no way they couldn't find some communications individual that's working towards this craft from the U or SCSU.
Ya, but the man could sell bread to a baker. (I think it was Country Hearth.)

I don't get the hater's here and on social media. I mean, if this bothered you so much to publicly post about it negatively, I want your life. It was a fun call for a tremendous ending to a great game. The last few minutes of the game had SEVERAL great plays which led to Gus's reaction on that amazing catch and throw. IMHO we need more guys with passion and energy in sports and Gus just adds to it just like Dick Vitale did in hoops.
Vitale expressed calculated, well articulated passion. Gus sounded like he was gargling salt water while being chased by an attack helicopter.

There are a ton of color guys out there who do a great job of expressing unbridled joy for the game while also sounding like they've been there before.

He's not a color guy. He's the lead announcer. Dick Vitale would make hyperbolic statements every game and was awesome for it. Quit the hate. Life is short.

Gus Johnson is fine for the crowd that calls everyone "bruh", watches Mr. Beast videos and thinks the numbers 6 and 7 being said in sequence is absolutely hilarious.
I'm 57 and do none of those things, but love Gus Johnson calling football and basketball, bruh (sorry, I do one of those things).

I don't mind him either. I just immediately thought of Key and Peele's "hypeman" skit when I heard that call.
