All Things 2025 Minnesota Vikings In-Season Thread

it's almost like Carson said he wanted to play and could (it's a pain issue not like he's going to die or lose a limb from the injury). Numerous players play with broken things all the time (have none of you ever seen the D players with shoulder harnesses on playing with torn labrums?). Off top of my head, Leftwich being carried down the field while playing on a broken leg in college, McNabb on a broken fibula that he ran on for the whole game, Rivers torn ACL in the playoffs, numerous QBs playing with broken ribs for multiple weeks, Simms ruptured spleen game.

If they pressured him to play when he said he couldn't then that's a problem, but to act like we don't all glorify guys playing through pain in the NFL and that this is some huge outlier is just not true.

Agree. KOC has been the most player friendly coach in the league. Now he is going to suddenly change his stripes?

Doctors said more damage couldn't be done. In my opinion, KOC is taking an undeserved amount of heat for this.

This season is far from over. if we beat Detroit and that a big if. we not gonna get blown out by the Lions. It will be a close game. but i think we have a shot of beating the Lions. we need to go 2-1. If we can go 3-0 we back in it.

I'm not jumping to the conclusion that this is a "lost" season just yet.

The Vikings are only 1 game back in the L Column for a Wild Card.

They have one of the toughest remaining schedules in the league. Two of their 'weak' opponents are Baltimore and Washington, which are much better teams with their starting QBs healthy, and both could be healthy when the Vikings play them.

There's a much better chance the Vikings end up with a top 10 pick than a playoff birth.

Darrisaw and O'Neill being back should help our offense.

However, I just can't imagine our defense slowing down the Lions.

The doctors have also medically cleared JJM for the last two weeks but KOC decided to throw an injured Wentz out there instead.

I think KOC made a mistake not putting Brosmer in, but it's just that, a mistake. KOC is a good coach and a guy most any player would want to suit up for.

That is fair. Also, have to wonder if this angst directed at KOC is more about the disappointing 3-4 record than anything else. How much of a concern would this situation be if Vikes were 6-1?

You have already thrown doubt in there by saying the Baltimore & Washington QBs "could" be healthy. That means there is a solid change they are not. Plus both contests are at the Zygi Dome.

Things change in the NFL week-to-week, even if one agrees that their odds of finishing in the bottom 10 are better than making the Playoffs, that still does not mean it's a lost cause yet.

Maybe it will be. Not enough data to determine. Perhaps the Vikings get healthy and go on a run like like last year. Or they get even more banged up and it's over by Thanksgiving.

Lamar is already back. If anything, it’s just as likely if not more JJ is out. Daniels will be back in 6 weeks

That said, the vikes have to focus on themselves. They’ve played like ass for large stretches of the year and that’s all you can control is playing better, not who’s lining up across from you

This week will be the mid point of the season so there's plenty of data. I think there's very little chance they win @Detroit this week.

In order to make the playoffs they will have to get to at least 10 or possibly 11 wins. That means they need to go 7-3 or 8-2 the rest of the way against one of the toughest remaining schedules with essentially a rookie QB and a beat up roster with no depth.

I think it's already over by Halloween.

Even if they are back, they could get hurt again as could any of the remaining QBs/key players on the slate. Stuff happens.

It’s over now

In the last 4 seasons there have been 6 teams that qualified for the NFL Playoffs as a Wild Card with only 9 wins.

4 had 8 Ls and 2 more had 7 Ls plus a Tie.

The now 7 Teams per Conference lends itself to that being more possible for the Post-Season Tournament.

None last year though, and only 1 wild card team the year before that. Several of those were division winners, and I don't think there's any chance someone wins the NFC North with only 9 wins this season.

I specifically said 6 "Wild Card" Teams since 2022, not Division Winners.

Indeed there have been additional teams with 9 or less Ws to make the Playoffs. I excluded those entrants.

I agree it will take more than 9 W to take the NFC North. I didn't say otherwise.

NFL = National Fake-you-out League

They (league execs) love nothing more than an upset. It makes the best regular season in professional sports ... the best regular season in professional sports. It keeps people glued to the TV, and caring. The more people care, the higher the TV ratings, the more money.

I am by no means saying the League is going to interfere to get this outcome ....... but I am saying that it would not shock me if the Vikings pulled off a massive upset in Detroit. Not counting on it, but it's the NFL. Expect the unexpected

But there is a chance all four NFC North teams make the playoff

The only bad games were against the Falcons and Chargers.

Every other game was close and winnable.

Wentz isn't very mobile or elusive even when fully healthy and he was clearly injured and in a lot of pain. I'm no fan of Wentz but the choice made by KOC to keep him in the game is inexcusable. I would also question the integrity of our medical staff, too.

So yes...Brosmer should've been in the game and earning his paycheck as a well paid NFL player. Players play. KOC crapped the bed on this and deserves plenty of criticism. I also wonder if the NFLPA is going to start asking some questions, too.
What I probably should have said, revising a bit, is that KOC didn't want Brosmer to get hurt ... because he didn't want to be forced to then have to put McCarthy in the game.

Obviously I have no proof (unless it has more or less come out since the game), but I would not be surprised if the follow is the truth of the matter:

Docs said "Look Carson, the damage was done against the Browns. Your shoulder needs surgery. Now, you can't hurt it any worse than it already is ... but any hit you take is going to be very painful. Your options are to get surgery, which ends your season, or put in a brace and hope for the best."

Carson opted to grit and bear it through the Chargers game. And now that McCarthy is ready to come back, now he's electing to have season ending surgery. He paid his pound of flesh. Thank you Carson!

I get what you’re saying and all is subjective, but did not feel they played “well” against Chicago, Pitt, Cleveland or Philly at least for large chunks of the game but the joy of competitive sports is just have to play a little better than your opponent and not even for the whole game and you can still win.

This team talent wise feels capable of a lot more, particularly on defense imo. Which should be encouraging as it does mean perhaps they can go on a run, but the window has gotten mighty closed comparatively to where it was 2 weeks ago

A win's a win, and a loss's a loss. I don't care about scores.

Each week is independent from every other week.
