This is a fireable offense

The game is over. MSU next up. Northwestern, Oregon, Wisconsin to worry about later. Win three of the next four conversation may change. Win two of the next four? Win one of the next four and Gopherholers will go nuts.

100%. Not a serious football program. School wants the money from the football team to support everything but is only serious about being Elite Academically and Socially.

THIS! The U of M Administration is more concerned about being in the Woke 100 top ten than caring about any of their athletic programs. It is what we have become, it is who we are…athletic mediocrity is our ceiling.

Why don't they take the handcuffs off in games like this? Iowa beats us annually and we attempt the same everytime.

I’m sorry, I just don’t agree with this take. If you’re not trying to win a championship, you don’t belong in the Big Ten. You don’t.

Effectively there are 2 conferences, that’s it. Things have changed. Indiana is competing for Natty’s and Vandy is a top ten team in the country. You have huge TV contracts and advantages over 90% of the teams out there.

You give guys a fair shot and if it doesn’t work you move on. Year 9.
It's year 2 of this new reality. Fleck is good at the non x and o part of this new reality. He needs good coordinators. He doesn't have them right now.

Honest question: why is it dumb?

This is entertainment and they are competing for
my entertainment dollars. If I want to see the Gophers beat Iowa and write checks supporting the programs efforts to beat Iowa - if they don’t get that W, why am I dumb for wanting a change?

No different than choosing where I go to dinner based on the food or what booze I buy based on what’ll get me hammered quickest after watching PJ take a team on the road.
You can obviously spend your $$ how you see fit. But an AD should evaluate the coach based on his overall record. Not his record against one team.

In fairness, all Tim Brewster did was accept the job he was unqualified for when it was offered.

Fleck isn't going anywhere, but I'm willing to bet he'll leverage the rumors to try and bump HIS salary.

Coyle needs to restructure his deal to put more money to the coordinators and more incentives in his contract to earn what he's making now with opportunities to grow beyond what he's making now.

Little things like not having 8 games in a season (7 with out the 1-AA team) and have the team show up to olay for 1 game for 60 minutes.

I don't believe that Coyle has the vision or the cojohnes to do anything ither than give PJ a raise because PJs agent knows how to play him like a fiddle.

The relationship doesn't need to be adversarial, but it needs to have both sides put more skin in the game based on results on the field.

I agree on the coordinators. And they desperately need a new OC. Probably DC too but I suppose you can argue be deserves more time.

Just reading this thread one can see why we'll never be a good team. Fleck has made no progress with the great team he inherited from Kill and he recruits in the basement of the Big10, ensuring that we stay a bottom-dwelling team. Yet, people think he's "great" and "he's never going to be fired."Iff

If Fleck were failing at Michigan, Iowa, Wisconsin, or Nebraska the way he's failing here, he would be on his way out the door. But here? We're happy as long as everybody has fun.
Lmao

Careful, you are going to be told 1 good season in 9 is all we can hope for and getting humiliated by Iowa every year is ok.

Best PJ can do is continue to hire and fire coordinators
When put like that - I def laugh.
I’m not a bobo, but not a hater either.

I can see a case for wanting to move on - but I still think PJ has a higher ceiling. That said, I thought he’d prove that today.
Have you seen what our University provides the football team? It's a liberal state and a liberal University. The NIL money is absolutely nothing. Minnesota football will never be at the level we want it to be due to the surroundings. That said, we can at least be a team that consistently wins 8 to 10 games a year. We will never do that with this offensive coordinator and these defensive coordinator.
Yea those literals in Oregon sure do hate football!

I agree with everyone on the coordinators. Unless there is some kind of massive NIL budget here we’re never going to consistently recruit near the top of the conference due to geography. Neither will Iowa, but they do have an elite coordinator, if they had two elite coordinators they’d be able to make a jump up as well. You either have to find a HC that is good at X’s and O’s or you have to find or pay for the coordinators. And we all know Fleck isn’t the X’s and O’s guy. You have to out coach teams here because you’ll never have enough of a talent advantage to do anything in this conference.

Uhhh... Their money comes from one guy and that one guy happens to own the largest athletic clothing and footwear company in the world

The whole entire program is basically a big piece of shit. Fleck is probably the best part of that piece of shit. firing him will not make the program better in any way shape or form, but until the whole program is turned around , the gophers will be a mid pack team at best

A case can be made to give Danny more time. As strong of a case can be made that the B1G is not a training ground job. He's not ready. He may ultimately be, but he was promoted and shouldn't have been. Why? I don't know.

PJ's loyalty?
The lack of funds for experienced DCs made a risky hire in Danny his best choice??

If it's the latter, Coyle needs to fix that.

When they were bragging about HAVOC, today was not what I understood them to be talking about.

Several NFL draft picks from those Kill/Claeys carryovers and the 2019 season would not have even gotten off the ground without those key contributors.
So he did improve on what he took over? Those key contributors weren’t at the same level in 2017.

Coyle is horrible.

Well yes, players tend to get better with experience wouldn’t have expected any of them to be All Americans as freshmen. Thought we were talking about recruiting.

He didn’t inherit a great team, he inherited some players that eventually were part of a great team.

Prob From a dang ol liberal too!!! Makes a man sick.
Both parties are great for certain reasons. When it comes to funding Athletics though, let's be honest, the South and more Republican dominated universities tend to have more money for nil.

It’s less about politics and more about culture.
