All Things 2025 Playoff Thread

Well stated.

I think the pendulum will swing back eventually.
kind of crazy to me there are 7 guys who his .300 or higher on the year. 2022 was the last time there were double digit players who did so. I get it. They argue the analytics are better for hitting home runs rather than stringing together hits with today's pitching, but it feels so anti-baseball in my head. Ok I'll be done with the soapbox.

I’m in your choir; it’s boring as all get out.

I think teams will change it up - the Twins now want more athletic players who can run and move, frim what I’ve read.

That change was reflected in leading MLB in steals over the last couple of months, after being one of the words at it previously.

It’s also a great way to counter the better pitching you see in the playoffs.

We are neighbors with Nathan Lukes, the RF/LF for Toronto. Amazing story, 31 years old and finally got called up to the Majors at age 29. He's on a 1 year contract this year at $760K and had his career best year and an even better post-season. I really hope he can sign a 3 year deal or so this offseason, after spending so many years working his way up through the minors. Most of our neighbors don't even know what he does for a living, he and his wife are so unassuming. It's really fun to follow his career and have a truly personal reason to cheer for Toronto/him.

Go Nathan Lukes!!

At 6 years old, it was long past my bedtime. Today is the Golden Anniversary of Fisk's Game 6 HR off the Foul Pole over the Green Monster.

Pink and co. would have been a few months into their senior year.

Wasn't that their Junior year, the autumn before the epic party at the Moon Tower closed out their last day of school?

The World Series would have been in October of 76, though, right?
Fisk's Game 6 HR for the Red Sox was in 1975 against the Reds. 50th Anniversary last night.

October '76 the Big Red Machine swept the Yankees during Pink's Senior QB season (if Coach Mross let him play without signing the "pledge").

Oh, I thought it was in 76. Carry on.

What do you have in mind?
Behind curtain #1 -

The loser must write a semi-heartfelt paragraph as to why the winner is the superior poster and always will be.

Behind curtain #2 -

The loser must make a $25 contribution to the winner’s charity of choice.

Due to inflation, we could only afford two curtains.

You sir, can decide which option is selected, if you deign to Lay it on the Line (my Pandora Triumph station is kicking it, Big Time) for them Dodgy Dodgers.

Our destiny awaits your 👍👎.

I'm a Scorpio, so I can't do #1.

I'll do #2.

The interesting thing is when you compare a few things from this past year to, say 1991, when the Twins last won the WS, some of the overall league hitting numbers are not that much different.

1991 - 4.31 runs/game, .256 BA, .323 OBP, .385 SLG, .708 OPS
2025 - 4.45 runs/game, .245 BA, .315 OBP, .404 SLG, .719 OPS

There's some differences but I don't think it's as significant as people think. One theory I have is with the expansion of talent internationally, the difference between the great players and everyone else is not as significant as it once was. Once you get past the truly elite, Hall of Fame level guys like Judge and Ohtani, there's not a big difference in talent and results.
