Say something nice about Iowa, 2025 edition

So much of Iowa topography is EXACTLY like where I grew up in south central MN. Outside of college sports, it just feels like the same place. In that respect, it is really hard to get angry with "my" people. The same struggles. The same focus on farming. The same focus on farming the exact same crops. Etc. etc. etc.

Yet such nice people turn into douchenoodles when they take a weekend off to come up here for football games. An alien flying saucer overview would never suspect there are any differences between Iowa and Southern MN unless they learn about college football. It becomes pretty obvious then.

Having driven to a couple games in Iowa City, I always think to myself "how can all these nice people blow it by cheering for the Squawks?"

Is there anyone left in Minnesota or on this board that do not understand the difference between a fair catch signal and an invalid fair catch signal?

If so, let me know. I'd be happy to take a few moments with you to familiarize yourself with the rulebook and help you to become completely guilt-free when it comes to what was called in Iowa City near the end of the most recent Gopher win over Iowa.

Basically 95% of Iowa fans literally don't know what was actually called on that play, let alone understand it was the CORRECT call. Once you understand the difference between a fair catch signal and an invalid fair catch signal, and how each are viewed by proper officiating... ANY/ALL "controversy" over what was called that day melts away very quickly.

Sure, once it becomes clear, some Iowa fans begin to throw some unrelated things against the wall to see if that will stick, but that is quickly shot down too ("Why did Gopher players try to tackle him then" or "that is unfair because it is never called" or even "that isn't a reviewable call"). All false, all easily shot down.

John Wayne was born there………………………….Of course he changed his name and moved away to shed the stink off of him!

My son-in-law is a huge Hawkeye fan, but he is also a really great guy. (However - never, ever bring up the "phantom fair catch signal" - just leave that one be....)
Bring it up constantly, and forever!

Mom is from Iowa and have good childhood memories of visiting my grandparents down there.

The only good thing I have to say about the football program is that the wave to the Children's Hospital is one of the coolest traditions in college football.
I think it is horrible.

Imagine, imprisoning children like that so you can steal their souls and inject them into Ferret-Face Kirk and Phil Parker so they can keep young.

Iowa sucks so much that it gives us nice winds in the fall.
