At times in both the Rutgers and Purdue game, I thought we might be looking at overtime. Then I tried to remember the last overtime game at TCF/Huntington Bank Stadium and I couldn't remember any. But that seemed strange so I looked it up.

I checked the latest media guide and unless I missed something, the Gophers have never had an overtime game in TCF/Huntington Bank Stadium. They have played in eight overtime games since 2009, but they have all been on the road. The last OT game at home was in the Metrodome in 2007 (they actually had two at home in 2007).

Was Purdue one of the 2007 ones? Didn't Cupito score on an option or something crazy
2007 Purdue was a game in which I was watching at the Hilton sportsbook in Vegas. I was standing & cheering a blocked FG getting returned for a TD, only for Jamal Harris to drop the ball while running, which resulted in the entire sportsbook pointing & laughing at the Gophers & me.

I did the only thing I could: I sunk in my chair & tried to avoid shame. Ranks as one of my most embarrassing moments as a Gopher fan.....

On topic, when was the last Gopher OT game? My memory is thinking 2020 @ Maryland, in which we botched the PAT for the loss....

I still have the media guide open but I didn't need it for that one. It was Northwestern in 2023. I was at a relative's wedding in New York keeping track on my phone. Gophers went from a 99% win probability to losing in overtime.

Ah yes, forgot that one. Coughed up lead & easy 1 play TD for NW for the win.....

The good thing about being at a wedding during that game was the open bar.
I was at a wedding years ago, during the summer, and on that day, a good friend got married to the love of his life, and they have built a beautiful family, with 3 children that are all wonderful. It was a beautiful day.

I also found out that day that our offer was accepted, and my new wife and I would become first-time homeowners, and as a surprise, she was waiting until the reception to tell me that she took a test and was pregnant with our first child. The day really couldn't get any better.

And on top of that, if you can believe it, I also found out that my best friend had just gotten the test results back and his cancer was in remission.

The best thing about that day was the open bar.

I thought for sure there was an OT loss for Kill at the Bank vs a MAC team but I could be wrong.

True story.

The Billds got very pre-game buzzed for that one...the most we've ever been. Our season ticket neighbors to the right were an older couple that brought their grandson to the game. Mrs. Billd got so excited on a play in the first half that she literally put an elbow into the kid's eye socket that is close to what happened with the chair leg with another storied event. We were so embarrassed that we bought the kid a t-shirt at halftime that at least made him happy...grandparents moved to different seats the next season.

Anywho, back to Jamal's drop. It was right in front of us. We couldn't believe it. So after the game we were walking back to our car parked on a lot on Washington and lo and behold but none other did we come across former Governor Arne Carlson and his wife also walking back from the game. Everyone on GH should know he bleeds, pees, and whatever other bodily functions Maroon and Gold. I recognized him and started going off on how could Jamal drop that ball and for all intents and purposes lose the game. Arne looked at me like I was The Zodiac Killer incarnate and just put his head down as he and Mrs. Former Governor walked along.

Once the fog of defeat lifted (or something else wore off) I too sunk in the proverbial chair and tried to avoid the shame. Ski U Embarrassing.

I know people like to say showing green but 2023 Purdue and 2023 northwestern were, in my opinion, the worst two games of the fleck tenure. Bowling green 3

2007 had home OT against Bowling Green and Miami in the first two weeks of the season.

There was an OT game against Purdue in 2005.
Yes, the 2005 Purdue game was the one where Cupito threw a pick 6 to put the Gophers down 28-20 in the 4th quarter. He led them back to score and got the 2-point conversion on an option play, which was breath-taking because it did not exactly fit his skill set. Purdue went up in OT with a touchdown but the Gophers matched it. Then the Gophers got another one and held Purdue.

I was at that game and Harris was running right toward me as I was waving him forward. I remember a non-athletic kicker or holder chasing him awkwardly with flailing arms...and then the ball came out. They made Curtis Painter look like Drew Brees that night, but then that team made every quarterback look good.

That same year we lost in OT in Madison on a missed FG.
Yes, that was the covid season. The Gophers did not have a true kicker on the roster and a kid who had never kicked since high school was given the job, with predictable results.
