I think I will trust KOCs decision given that he sees both QBs in practice every day, Brosmer has only taken approximately 10 snaps in regular season NFL games, Cleveland's defense is stout, it's is profession to make such an evaluation as well as his own current/future employment is greatly impacted on the outcome.

Also if he trusts a wounded Wentz more, that also says something about Brosmer right now. In the future, maybe even later in the season with more reps, could be different.

Fair, but KOC isn't immune to the coaching tendency to defer to the veteran, etc.

I care zero about NDSU. Wentz just isn't good anymore, even for a back-up.

I suppose. Every QB KOC has ever had including Dobbs and Jaren Hall could have won the Bengals game though.

That's fair to too. However also fair is throwing in an undrafted/unproven Rookie behind a patchwork O-Line against a tough defense, just doesn't seem like a good idea. Especially for a team with Wild Card aspirations.

Howie will never give credit where credit is due. Wentz goes 9 for 9 on the final drive against the number 1 defense and he says he’s not good enough to be a backup. Can’t make it up

He had a good drive. It doesn't erase his overall play. There's a reason he was sitting available on August 24th.
 

I’d say Wentz’s play has been relatively in line with my expectations (which admittedly were quite low), but:

a. Nobody at this point cares that he went to NDSU. One of the most popular Vikings in recent memory was Chad Greenway, and I’m certain almost all of us hate Iowa far more than NDSU.
b. Judging a QB by his W-L record is almost as meaningless as judging starting pitchers by that metric.
c. I love Brosmer and would love nothing more than to see him become a Vikings legend, but you’re delusional if you think we can play him and compete for a playoff spot.

Well, in 2023 we did see Mullens under KOC fail to beat the Bengals in a game in which Burrows was also sidelined, so not EVERY QB under his tutelage.

And doing so with a depleted line is as much as one could hope for in this quandary.

I read that KOC held out McCarthy this whole week as the practice field conditions were sketchy; he’s also saying that JJ will not play until he’s completed a full week of practice.

So it’s entirely possible thst Wentz starts against Philly, which may work with the revenge angle.

He’s also a vast improvement over the previous backups during KOC’s tenure.

Yes, but that wasn't on Muellens. And this Bengals team is much worse.
 



My last post on this: This is not about Wentz. He is what he is. I think any back-up QB properly prepared by KOC has a pretty high floor. Wentz is pretty much at that floor. Brosmer might not be better, but I don't really think he would do worse.

Also, the Vikings did a poor job of handling the back-up QB spot this off-season. That's on Qwesi.

I think for a backup QB there's certainly some value. If a backup QBs record is abysmal, then what's the point?

Regarding baseball, I actually put more stock in the Teams record when a guy starts, not necessarily the pitcher's W-L record.

We play to win the games.

They are 2-1 so far playing with a back-up QB. That's not poor.

Also I would bet KOC had every bit as much to do with the decision making as Qwesi.

We'll probably never know, but it sure doesn't seem like KOC ever wanted Sam Howell.

There's zero chance KOC didn't have significant input.

I give them both credit for cutting bait, knowing Howell wasn't a fit.

I think they (note plural) wanted Wentz all along but he was holding out for a better chance to start. They got him into Eagan with plenty of time to contribute by the regular season as well as got some draft compensation for Howell.

They got 2 Ws under Wentz. They handled it perfectly fine, IMO..
