Texas Tech, fairly literally, purchased a championship in softball
They do, but it hasn’t shown up in recruiting quite yet. I’m sure that will change in time if things continue this way.TT seams to gave NIL $ and institutional support.
How’s it not easier to beat 9 mediocre teams vs 7 mediocres and 2 greats?Disagree.
Subtracted Texas and OU and added the "four corners" schools from the old Pac-12
And when you compare to what the conference was in 2022: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2022_Kansas_State_Wildcats_football_team
The Big 12 has added a lot of teams that aren't at the top-end the same as Texas and OU but are in that mid-high range like K-State, so there are more opportunities for losses.
Minnesota is one of the worst locations for recruiting of any p4 school. Yes there’s less competition, but there’s like 100 times more viable prospects in California. There's also much more competition. In Minnesota PJ has been able to lock down the borders and keep almost all of the best talent in every season. That's a great foundation to recruit off of that smaller fish in more talent-filled states like California, Florida and Texas don't get.
I wonder why they have no money? They seem to do well in other sports. If they could take advantage of the Cali recruiting they’d be a force. They have no money and their facilities suck
Again I disagree with your characterization. How’s it not easier to beat 9 mediocre teams vs 7 mediocres and 2 greats?
Every P4 school, or nearly every one, I would guess is spending the full or close to the full $20.5M of in-house NIL payments (my term).I wonder why they have no money? They seem to do well in other sports. If they could take advantage of the Cali recruiting they’d be a force.
Well I’m pretty sure he doesn’t have female plumbing.I'm a Man!!! Is gone...

Sources: Okla. St. fires longtime coach Gundy
Oklahoma State, which has lost 11 of its last 12 games dating to the start of the 2024 season, has fired longtime head coach Mike Gundy, sources told ESPN.www.espn.com
Not only is he the winningest coach in their history, he has over 100 more wins than the guy in second place. Pretty impressive run for a coach at a school that isn't even the best program in his own state.Certainly seemed like it was time to move on after last year and the start to this one. I'm sure it's bittersweet, and he will likely be honored and celebrated a couple years from now.
He's the winningest coach they've had and has a solid resume. All things considered, in a conference with Blue Bloods Texas, Oklahoma and Nebraska, plus the rise of teams like TCU, Baylor, as well as solid programs like K-State and Texas A&M, I'd think he's a success.

The athletic dept. at UCLA is something like $100 million in debt, and isn't some of their B1G money getting funneled to Cal as part of some agreement? As mentioned, their facilities are really poor (they don't have a 100 yard practice field.). They're second fiddle in their own market to USC. They play an hour or more from campus with LA traffic. And I would guess a significant amount of money goes to their hoops program.Every P4 school, or nearly every one, I would guess is spending the full or close to the full $20.5M of in-house NIL payments (my term).
Not all of that goes to football of course, but would guess $10-15M at most schools.
And I'm guessing they're going to pay staff the going rate for a mid-tier Big Ten school.
So they have money.
Guessing he was talking about 3rd-party NIL, which is going to start being quite limited due to the clearinghouse anyway, which I personally think is a great thing
Riiiiight. It'll just go back to bag men being the norm.Guessing he was talking about 3rd-party NIL, which is going to start being quite limited due to the clearinghouse anyway, which I personally think is a great thing
Yet Iowa State is doing much better?Again I disagree with your characterization.
Every conference has lower teams each year. In 2022 the Big 12 only had 10 teams and was the last major conf to still play a full round robin. Last year they were up to 16 teams (still 9 conf games). The 8 added teams, mostly were programs that are at the level of K-State.
So I think it will be tougher for Klieman to have a 2022 like season in the current configuration.
Shocking how it fell apart so fast.Certainly seemed like it was time to move on after last year and the start to this one. I'm sure it's bittersweet, and he will likely be honored and celebrated a couple years from now.

You are right that there is some kind of thing where they have to give part of their Big Ten money to Cal. I forgot about thatThe athletic dept. at UCLA is something like $100 million in debt, and isn't some of their B1G money getting funneled to Cal as part of some agreement? I am not detecting much disagreement or reasoning why, in this post?Riiiiight. It'll just go back to bag men being the norm.![]()
They finished 7-2 in conference in 2024, just like the other three ranked teams in the conf last year.Yet Iowa State is doing much better?
Who had Pittman fired before Napier on their bingo card?Arkansas chimes in:
Go Gophers!!
Realistically speaking, this is not great news. Wasn’t it Pittman and his staff that passed on Drake?Arkansas chimes in:
Go Gophers!!
That’s ok, Petrino passed on his own wife.Realistically speaking, this is not great news. Wasn’t it Pittman and his staff that passed on Drake?
Next Ark coach falling on his hands and knees and offering $$$ should strike fear in our hearts.Realistically speaking, this is not great news. Wasn’t it Pittman and his staff that passed on Drake?
Sounds like he was recruited until Petrino was OC.Realistically speaking, this is not great news. Wasn’t it Pittman and his staff that passed on Drake?
Good grief.Next Ark coach falling on his hands and knees and offering $$$ should strike fear in our hearts.
May loyalty (to the Gophers) win out
How wild was 2011 for Arkansas:Considering what he did at Wisconsin and how Illinois is now, it's surprising Bielema couldn't get something going at Arkansas. I get that the SEC was stacked at that time, but still, his teams never seemed to their footing.
That Arkansas program for about 20 years now has been just kind of average. They had that great two-year run with Ryan Mallett slinging the ball in 2010 and 2011. Other than that their best years have ranged from 8 to 9 wins.
So the $$$ will trump being disrespected over and over? Not likely.Next Ark coach falling on his hands and knees and offering $$$ should strike fear in our hearts.
May loyalty (to the Gophers) win out
It's California, so, no.You are right that there is some kind of thing where they have to give part of their Big Ten money to Cal. I forgot about that
Honestly wonder if we had taken Cal instead of UCLA (I know this was never on the table, don't get me wrong) if the powers that be would've forced the same arrangement on them to UCLA's benefit?
