Robb Smith did us his first favor by overcomplicating a defense so much that when Rossi took over just getting rid of half the playback was immediate improvement.

Today his terrible defense (not to take anything away from Drake who had an awesome game) helped us win today.

True, but I don't see the point of jeering at the failures of a long-gone former employee.

I don't think he coached terribly. He mixed up some zone and man-to-man schemes. I actually think Drake is not only a great physical presence, but mentally he reads the defense pre-snap as good as any quarterback we've had except for maybe Max. Drake absolutely broke that defense down pre-snap. That was fun to watch.

Smith often had 7 or 8 in the box, essentially taking away PJ’s favored weapon—the run game—betting that young Lindsay couldn't take over the game and win with his arm. Smith lost his bet. And Lindsay showed that, though only a RS FR, he is a legit B1G QB.
