2025 Minnesota High School Football Thread

Lower divisions would probably get offended by having a C or D next to their division when the big Schools get an A. :)
I'm almost positive that's the reason. And it's a stupid one, but typical.
To be fair, we aren't the only state that does this.

Im guessing you were joking, but you are probably right... and if that's the case its the first and only time that MSHSL has listened to a concern from class A, since the district scheduling has gone in to effect there are several class A teams playing 3 games a season vs class AA while they have some class AA teams playing almost an entire class A season. Just go look at 2023 and 2024 seasons from pillager and staples motley, and the scary part is pillager was granted thier appeal to play down in class AA

Other sports were A and AA, so they switched football to reflect that format. The B, C, D designation was for sure part of the reason they did it. They were adding a class and didn't want it to be D, so they switched to A, AA, AAA, AAAA, AAAAA, 6A came later. Other sports have added AAA, and AAAA.

Just wanted to give a shout out to Alexandria for blowing out Elk River 52-16 in 5A last week. You dont see Elk River getting Mercy ruled very often.

It's stupid for all sports. Someone feeling bad because they're class D is ridiculous.

Pillager is big enough to be AAA and asked to move down? That surprises me.

here are my 6a power scored rankings.

This is my personal power rating with this formula:
You get a point for every win over non relief teams you have.
You get a point for every win a team you beat has.

Tiebreakers are overall wins.

If there is a tie after that you’re tied.

1) Minnetonka 12 points (4 wins)
2) centennial 12 points (3 wins)
3) maple grove 11 points
4) shakopee 9 points
5) Lakeville south and Champlin park - 8 points

7) Forest Lake - 6 points (4 wins)

8) Rosemount, Eden prairie, and Moorhead - 6 points (3 wins)

11) Andover and farmington - 5

13) Rogers - 4
14) east ridge, Osseo, Blaine - 3

17) Stillwater - 2 (2 wins)
18) Lakeville north and Prior lake - 2 (1 win)

20) Edina - 1 (2 wins)
21) st Michel Albertville - 1 (1 win)

22) Woodbury and white bear lake - 0 (2 wins)

24) eagan, Moundsview, Hopkins, Eastview - 0 (1 win)

28 - Anoka, coon rapids, Roseville, park, wayzata - 0 (0 wins)

A quick Google search and you can see the enrollment numbers, over 1300 in the district enrolled and 322 for MSHSL adjusted enrollment. Only one way to get into 2A and that's to ask to not be in 3A with those numbers

Some big games in the small school classes tonight

using QRF numbers as I saw that Nevis and Pine River have been in the others receiving votes in the polls and Both of those teams have have a pair of 40 point losses to teams in class A already so I don't think some of those voters are even looking at anything but last weeks score

Class AA
Section 6

Staples Motley #4
Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton #15 but AAA
Section 6 is crazy
2 teams tied for #1 in QRF and 4 in the top 10

Most other games of top teams in AA looked to be not top tier matchups I looked at as far as inter section games

Moose Lake Willow River #7 Section 7AA
Rush City #10 section 4AA

Class A

Section 2

Cleveland
St James

Section 6
Breckenridge #1
OTC #6
Section 6 has 5 of top 16 in QRF

Section 8
Mahnomen #7
Red Lake County #10

I'll be watching closely the Albert Lea v Fairmont game. Both teams are in the others receiving votes in 3A. An Albert Lea win will setup the biggest game for them against Waseca that I can ever remember.

Go Tigers!

There are lot of weeks where those of us who watch closely could shake our heads at the AP poll, I just take those with a big grain of salt…

The Robbinsdale school district wants to close Armstrong and Cooper high schools because of declining enrollment and a growing deficit. They want to build one state of the art high school for the whole district. If this does happen I am sure they would be in the biggest class. Bring back the old Robbinsdale Robins?

East Ridge was awful against Mounds View. Down 14-0 in the 4th quarter, huddled every play and had maybe 5 first downs the entire game. Crazy time management . No clue how they’ve won a game after they lost their QB in game 1

Northfield beats New Prague to spoil the Trojans Homecoming and win the Missota Regular Season Title.

Raiders spotted them 7, then scored 4 unanswered TDs to get the 28-7 victory.

Would be 3rd largest school behind Wayzata and Minnetonka

Reports stating 9,000 at Tonka vs EP. Incredible
Looks like they got to see a really competitive game as well. Gotta think there will be a huge crown for Maple Grove/Minnetonka in the final game of the regular season.

Rosemount, South and Shakopee seem firmly in that second tier behind the leaders.

It was a zoo at the game, a pretty fun scene. Minnetonka was pretty 1-dimensional without their QB, but Francois is a next level athlete and carried the offense behind a big o-line. I’m not sure Minnetonka even completed a pass all game.

EP has a couple nice young running backs. EP WR dropped a wide open TD as time expired that could have tied the game.

The game between EP and Minnetonka was a classic. Huge crowd. Stands were full. Standing area near concessions five deep. Hill leading to visitors side completely filled. The game was an old fashioned smash mouth game. Minnetonka threw a pass early from their #2, it was picked off and that was it for the rest of the night. He ran, ran some more, and then ran again--had to have 275 yards for the night, including the winning TD with 2:24 left. EP played a great game too. Superior ground game with a bevy of backs. Brought in OL in fourth quarter to have a goal line stand from the two yard line before #2's heroics late. EP had a chance to tie game with 2 seconds to go but a pass to their #5 wasn't caught-went between his hands in end zone. One of the more entertaining games in my 27 years of watching EP football; right their with the 13-0 Wayzata game attended by 13,000 and the EP/Cretin playoff game when Mauer was QB.

The Maple Grove vs Minnetonka game at the end of the regular season should be a really interesting high school football tilt. 6A looks like Maple Grove and Minnetonka are the cream of the crop with EP, Shakopee, Rosemount, Lakeville South pick em's. Playoffs this year should display great HS football.

Sounds like it would be a fun rematch in the playoffs. Thanks for the summary! Go EP!

In other 6A news, Moorhead at home got crushed by Maple Grove.

No idea if they were still without their QB, guessing so
