"@TomDienhart: A source has told me that Navy coach Ken Niumatalolo has interviewed and is a finalist at Minnesota."

Gray has tweeted that he doesn't like the triple option, so he would probably transfer, along with Lair and McKnight.

How committed is Coach Ken to the flex-bone? Is it a Calhoun situation where he is just adapting to the strengths of what he has?

Right...like Lair and McKnight would transfer right before their senior seasons.

I would love this hire. If this guy can win and recruit at Navy he will have an unlimited potential at the U. He is a tough hard nosed guy and I would love to bring the triple option here. Go Gophers!

Don't forget Tiree Eure and Bryant Allen and Ed Olson and Jimmy Gjere and Moses Alipate and Tom Parrish and Victor Keise and Brandon Green and Brooks Michel.....all transferring because of this too.

Nope, he's a Paul Johnson protege/clone. He ran it as a QB at Hawaii where Paul Johnson was the OC and, aside from a brief stint at UNLV, has been associated with it his entire coaching career.

This is a cunning strategy by Maturi. Going after Niumatalolo so he comes here on a boat, and thus we can't track him.

I'm on to you, Joel.

This mean we won't know until the week after next.

This. No way does Niumatalolo leave until after Army-Navy. Can you imagine another TWO WEEKS of this? We're all gonna a) lose our jobs and b) go crazy.

Strictly speaking, the Triple Option is a play, not an offense. It is a play which can be run out of many formations. Even teams that run the triple option don't run it as often as people might think. I would love to see the triple option play as part of the mix. Get the triple option down pat, focus on the defense, and add non-option elements to the offense later. I think the option is one of the most exciting plays in football. I think Gray would kick ass running the option.

This would not please me.

You know, it does seem odd that Air Force and Navy are known for having a ground game. Army, I can see. But Air Force should go with the Air Raid offense. But what's left for Navy then? The Swinging Floodgates formation? The West Coast offense?

Tom Dienhart literally just makes stuff up.

I would be very happy with that hire.

I wikipedia-ed Ken because I can't fathom why anyone would be happy with him being our coach, and I still don't see it. Care to fill me in? Also, someone messed with his wikipedia page and it says he is "the next head coach of the University of Minnesota Punksters."

They would prefer to stick around and have JD Pride throw very few balls to them?

Right. JD Pride. Good one.

Do you know that Georgia Tech just produced an NFL 1st round draft pick from the WR position, while running the flexbone offense?

Anyway, my point is that very few seniors transfer when there is a coaching change. And if they do, they go to DI-AA schools in order to play right away. They are not going to play for 3 straight years and then sit out a season.

Time for a refresher course, folks: Answer the following question: Who didn't even get the name of the search firm right?

There's no reason you can't pass out of the flexbone, or whatever formation you run the triple option out of.

They could also just go pro like Calvin Johnson did when Paul Johnson was hired. :)
