All Things 2025 Minnesota Vikings In-Season Thread

Rodgers became the first player in NFL history to score a TD on an INT, fumble and force two fumbles in a game.

14/20 173yd 2TD 0Int 129.8rating in 3 quarters of work.

Seems like exactly what they need out of the QB
Did you propose after the first date?

It’s one game and if he does it for all the games JJ is out, then it’s something which I’m sure will be seriously considered.

Congrats on the Mason bet.

Italian Sausage, mushroom and onions on my half of our celebratory pizza.
Add Canadian bacon and you've got yourself a deal.

I was stunned it was that low for Mason considering Jones was out and the giant sieve of a defense we were going against.

The virtual measurement is a gigantic waste of time. There was never an issue with measuring before, it was the spot that was the issue.

Isn't the goal to save time? Maybe just need to work the kinks out?

It's always true that if you give NFL defensive coordinates enough time, they will figure you out.

So I don't expect this Wentz ride to last forever. When the music stops, then we'll have choices to make.

But it's not like we're paying McCarthy some huge $$$ contract, like the 9ers are to Purdy and are thus forced to put him back in when he's ready.

McCarthy can just sit there on the bench, this year. No skin off our teeth

If you let JJM sit that's halfway through his rookie deal with minimal development or performance evaluation.

Unless Wentz is lighting it up to the point that still competing for the NFC North is realistic, I think it would be reasonable to put JJM back in when he's healthy. It would give him a shot with their full compliment of OL and playmakers.

Hopefully it's a good problem to have. Can always change back.

Personally, I think the ceiling with either Wentz or McCarthy is the Wild Card, though the Packers getting upended by the Browns gives me pause.

So what I am hearing from you is that it's a low bar that JJM has to clear when he's healthy, the OL is in tact and all their WRs are eligible to participate in games.

This was a good win, but Wentz wasn't good today. Mediocre at best.

Correct.

That might be all you need from either Wentz or McCarthy to accumulate enough wins to make it to the Post-Season.

Stay clean on turnovers and debilitating sacks, good things can happen.

Think the Ravens will have a excellent win tomorrow night; favored by 5.5

If a 130 rating is a "low bar" or "mediocre", then it's likely you're trolling and not attempting good faith discussion.

Let me know if you'd like to change that

It's not hard, at all, folks.

The roster is built to win big right now. The fact that McCarthy is on a rookie deal is what enabled that. So we're already reaping the benefit of that.

I don't care if McCarthy sits the rest of the season, if that's what gives us the best chance at a NFC Championship.

Or next year, for that matter.

If he isn't showing signs of life after 2026 or 2027, then move on. Draft another QB in the first round.

Same thing the Patriots did moving on from Mac Jones to then draft Drake Maye. It's a way of life

I’ll take average from a guy who hasn’t played a meaningful game in over 2 and a half years and just joined the team 3/4 weeks ago
It was fine. But if he plays this level the next two games, it's an easy call to go back to McCarthy after the bye.

Correct, except he didn't play average at all. 130 rating is far above average.

It seems there are some folks here who are not interested in engaging in good faith discussion on the topic. 🤷‍♂️

Yes he was above average. Some here didn’t want him at all. I’ve followed his career since my son knew him a bit when he was at NDSU when Wentz was there

Is it possible that the circumstances of the game also played a major factor in the gaudy QB rating? 2 defensive scores, additional TO, effective running game, Home field, against another backup QB, etc...

He had a 2 score cushion midway through the 1st Q thanks to the Defense. That certainly dictated the game plan and decision making throughout the rest of the contest.

Sure, due credit to Wentz for engineering that first TD drive and protecting the ball.

However if there's no faith that a healthy JJM could also lead the Vikes to 2+ score victory under similar circumstances, that's bad news to the Purple fans short term. Additionally, it's really wasted use of substantial 2024 Draft Collateral long term.

Are you saying any QB who has the benefit of a solid defense and an effective running game has an artificially inflated QB rating?

Wentz should be a good game manager. Anyone who thinks today was “challenging” for any qb in that spot is fooling themselves.

He had 52 yards and was sacked three times in 5 drives and we were up 24-3. Game theory made the game massively easier today. He did exactly what was needed today though and did not make the big mistake and moved the chains. This team would be fine with a Dilfer at QB most games
