All Things 2025 Minnesota Wild Offseason

Lou Nanne believes Kaprizov is holding out for $18M/year. At that salary, he's be skating on a deserted island.

I really doubt that. I think the term is probably everything, and it's probably what's holding up the other two big-name players working on long term extensions also. The cap is going up in the next few years, a lot. I think these guys want shorter deals giving them flexibility (at least that's what I think with McDavid and KK97) to move on later.

If he is traded, unless they completely fleece someone, yeah I don’t see how you can keep guerin
I'm not allowing Guerin to oversee a KK trade if he potentially has a foot out the door. If the relationship with KK is beyond repair, let the new GM that has to work with results moving forward make that trade. Guerin's trade returns have been disastrous, usually at the expense of our high draft picks.

Who is this Alexei Shevchenko and i don't believe him 1 bit. I will wait until Russo or Smith or a wild beat writer post this before believing it.

Michael Russo posted it and said there is no truth what so ever on this Alexei Shevchenko rumor.

Glad it was untrue. I checked Russos’s X account and he did say it was false

A part of this whole thing that really seems odd to me is the fact that they didn’t even make an offer until Kirill was in town…

I can understand waiting until he’s in town to sign and announce but the negotiation should’ve started 7/1 (or earlier). This shouldve been ready to sign or in the final stages when Kirill returned to MN. Now Guerin boxed himself in with the season starting soon and other teams floating numbers.

Hypothetically, how different would the return be for KK if he was traded before the season versus at the trade deadline?

I guess that all depends on what kind of season he’s having up to that point

Trading him before the season would allow the acquiring team to make the moves necessary to make room for KK under the salary cap. At the trade deadline? That would be really hard to acquire someone and be able to make it work cap-wise, barring having some serious salary on LTIR.

If he didn't sign before/during the season, my guess is he would be looking at almost the same situation as Toronto was in with Mitch Marner; forced to move him right before the start of Free Agency to whoever makes the best offer, like Vegas did with Marner. Vegas COULD have gambled and tried to sign him but that would have opened the door for someone else to make just a ridiculous offer and steal him; so Vegas gave Toronto something for the effort at least.

This and this is why I never got the people who said you sit him for the year. You play him and you try be good and fucking buy for once at the deadline and convince him to stay or if you suck, you trade him in the first week of the offseason and you can offer him a bonus year for the negotiated price the team you’re trading to wants him at
