***OFFICIAL MINNESOTA AT CAL BATTLE OF THE “GOLDENS” GOLD-OUT IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

If we're being honest with ourselves, this doesn't fall on the coaches. As I said before, we were right in it being - 1 in the turnover margin and after having them throw it down our throats all 1st half. The players didn't execute for shit tonight on plays where it counted and Perich played probably the worst game of his career. Fix it and move on, the real season starts in two weeks.
Are you serious? Lindsey is playing lights out, even though our coaches keep putting him on 3rd and long. Even the INT was on 3rd and long. Then Fleck is a coward and plays for the field goal and calls a rush into a stacked line. This is why we always get out coached... Fleck is a coward.

Same old story, we’ve had such a garbage offense without Ciarocca. 7-5 or 6-6 with another toilet bowl win. At least this is the most connected team PJ has ever had.

Not likely. Probably a bowl team though. This is about the equivalent to losing at Rutgers last year. Not the worst loss ever, but not good.
I don't watch much ACC, but it seems wide open. FSU in the top 10 because they beat Bama, but Bama doesn't appear to be anything special

I would be surprised if FSU or Miami don't win the conference. And SMU, Clemson and GT are all better than Cal.

That's the game. The Gophers lost a winnable one, but that happens.

Perich played poorly, but would have certainly housed an INT if we didn't get unlucky by tipping the pass.

The OC made a few poor decisions, especially the trick play.

The QB is the man, but he's still a freshman and left a throw or two on the field.

Nothing I saw indicates they can't have a good year. They'll make a solid bowl and have a good season.

This one just got away, which sucks. They should have won the game against the best QB they'll see this season.

Spin this. Cal preseason bottom ACC. Plenty of B1G games ahead vs teams that have been blowing out everyone. That includes Ex gopher Kaliakmanis and Rutgers in front of 38,000 fans in two weeks.

There is a lot of responsibility to go around, but offensive and defensive play calling have both been horrendous.
I won't disagree about the defensive playcalling but we've gained over 300 offensive yards, thrown the ball almost 30 times, and converted 50% of our third downs. That's not amazing but I'd consider it good, esp against a power five defense with a freshman qb facing his first P5 opponent on the road. Harbaugh is easy to bag on with the timing of certain play calls but we have three downs to get a first down. Guys need to execute on first and second down. We had the offensive scheme to win and showed some moxie on a number of drives in the second and third quarters, the turtling on defense just put too much pressure on the offense throughout the game. Perich's muff altered the game entirely.

We tend to focus on the worst parts of the game because we're angry and this is our team. It sucks, but I'm not ready to give up on the season after this one. It's pretty clear Drake has been given a lot of latitude to run the offense and he's only a freshman, there's a ton to look forward to.

The shit play calling lost this game. The Perich pass play call was a disaster and turning point. The field goal before half was 100% on the coaching staff. The 3rd down run call is lazy and stupid. A Fleck disaster. Did not have his team ready for a game like this.

"I like Fleck, even though he loses"

The reason why we stay terrible. Fans in other Big 10 programs would be calling for Fleck's head. We grant an extension, a raise, and praise for a job "well done"
who are these big ten teams?

Being bad in all 3 phases isn’t great.

Learning experience, hopefully lights a fire after the cupcake appetizers.

The OC and PJ whiffed twice where it likely cost us points one with the trick play from hell and one with trying to run the ball on third and seven. You can’t put lipstick on that pig.

Execute on first and second down and you dont have shitty third downs. This offense isn't bad, we show flashes of brilliance due to a combo of good playcalling and good execution. It's our first P5 game against a west coast team on their turf, late at night. I'll hold judgment til the middle of the season. I made the mistake of losing all hope too early last year and I won't do that again.

I cannot begin to explain how pissed off I’ll be if I stay up past my bedtime tomorrow for another loss

All three phases lost this game, but it was mostly due to defense and special teams.

Should have won the game?

I must be blind.
