California fans attempting a "Gold Out" against the Golden Gophers

Much of this discussion appeared in one form or another on GH in the infant days of our own "Gold Outs" especially. To be fair to our fanbase, most now appear to have at least one gold item suitable for early season, ususally warmer, games. A gold out in November is not a good idea.

Looking beyond the Gold Out for Cal, another post does a nice breakdown of the teams strengths and weaknesses that appears mostly accurate for us and assuming also accurate for them.

Nice write up. Only thing missing would be on the injury front and the potential impact of DT leaving early last week with the presumed hamstring issue. Of course PJ downplayed it, but we know that means absolutely nothing coming from him.

Bless them, at least they're trying.

Thanks for sharing. It is a very fair writing. Perhaps giving a little too much credit for trends during blowouts of inferior competition, and a slightly out of scope fixation on their LB being out the first half. That, and they seem to be unaware of the Gophers likely missing their all-world RB for this game.

  • Key factors: Can Cal adjust to missing Uluave early? Will Minnesota’s defense hold against Cal’s aerial attacks?

On balance, Minnesota holds a slight edge—both in analytics and betting markets—but the Bear's offensive potential and home-field factor make this far from a foregone conclusion.

But honestly, the loss of Uluave for the first half could be really big. He is their best defensive player. Potential 1st round pick next year when he comes out as a junior this year.

Maybe a little undersized by draftniks obsessed by numbers (by height, at 6' 1") but he is a baller, and brings all of his 240lbs to every hit.

1 - I watched Cal vs Texas Southern and JKS was flat out bad in the first half and serviceable in the second. Cal hasn't played a defense with a pulse. They will be Sat. I am honestly not scared of JKS in the slightest.

2 - I think Cal's running game and defense are underrated. This is more important to me than a freshman QB. Hopefully Minnesota's LBs are as good as I think they are, as I still think this defense is special.
