All Things 2025 Tennis Thread

Love to see it. His only losses in majors this year are to Alcaraz and Sinner.

I went to 3 days of the Cincy Open late last week, an absolutely incredible site for a tournament after the renovation. The players are gushing over it, and outside of it being in Cincy, I like it better than Indian Wells.

If you’re a tennis fan, I highly recommend adding the Cincy Open to your tournament bucket list.

I even grabbed a selfie with Sinner!

Go USA!!

This is a heck of a story. This Frenchman doesn’t have an agent and no clothing or shoe deals, he is wearing generic clothing. Now he’s in the Cinci semis, after beating Fritz and Rune. Heck of a story.

Go Tennis!!

Remember this name for American tennis, Darwin Blanch. He won Kalamazoo a week ago and has a main draw entry into the U.S. Open, yesterday he beat former world Top 15 and Darwin is only 17!! He has Ben Shelton upside.

Go USA!!

The Mixed Doubles format was a massive success for the U.S. Open. Packer stadiums, big names, etc, and I was really happy that traditional doubles specialists beat star singles players to win the Slam.

Big props to the U.S. Open for this format change.

Go Tennis!!

I don’t understand why he even pretends he’s going to play. He’s a joke, and the biggest waste of potential likely in tennis history.

Go USA!!

Wild scene in the Medvedev match. He was facing match point and then this circus happened. He went on to win the set.

Go USA!!

I was watching it live and just couldn't believe all the support Medvedev was getting from the crowd.

Jackass.

This is amazing; this lady is pissed at Townsend for not saying “sorry” on a net court point, and Townsend tells her “learn to take an L”!!

Go Townsend!!

Tsitsipas needs to get over himself and get back to work on the court. His career is falling fast and this is an embarrassing post match move.

Go USA!!

Unbelievable 2nd set tie break between Townsend and Krejicova. 25 minute tie break. The set took over 90 minutes itself.

Frustrating match between Fritz and Djokovic, as Fritz couldn't convert on break points and the rare times he did he gave up his serve immediately after.

22 years and counting since an American male has won a Slam. Just an astonishing streak.

Sigh...

The Alcaraz/Novak match should be a great one though.

Yes, the US has not produced elite male tennis players in quite a long time. I blame it on soccer. 😅

I think Alcaraz will win in straight sets or purhaps lose one, but I don't think it will be all that close. Alcaraz is just that good right now. Joker is one of the greatest, but the mantle has been passed to Alcaraz and Sinner.

Taylor Fritz is currently ranked #4 at age 27. Ben Shelton is ranked #6 at age 22. If either were a player in any team sport (e.g., NFL, MLB, NHL, NBA), you would be calling them elite. Or are there only 3 or less elite players in each of those sports?

Maybe, but they would be second tier to the elite players. I generally count 5 or less as elite and that status comes from individual excellence. For example, in biking you have Pogacar and Vingegaard with everyone else falling into a lower tier.

Just saw that Cliff Drysdale is retiring after tomorrow's women's semi. Hell of a run - 46 years and he's 84. The send off was pretty emotional and you could tell he is truly loved as a broadcaster and person.
