Another year upon us for the State Fair. Parking has changed in Falcon Heights if you haven't heard. On street parking will be $25.00 on certain Falcon Heights streets. A lot of people I'm sure will be taken by surprise and it's going to cover a lot of parking spots. So if you go and that's your plan to park, pay the $25.00 or find somewhere else. Here's the map of Falcon Heights where parking will be charged:

Blizz, nice work! Look for the tallest guy at RC’s and I’ll buy.

I wish! I stop in there for my mid day break for the 2 days I go to the fair. I am no bbq expert but I like it.

I've heard their new offering the Hula Kalua is supposed to be quite good. We were there yesterday for a while but didn't stop at RC's.

Thanks for the map, Blizzard.

I really don't know whether this was inevitable eventually, but I didn't see it coming. In any case, my wife and I were talking about how this will affect things, and she thinks people are generally going to pony up for the $25. That might be true, but I'm not sure it's going to be the same people. People intent on a free option will move on to another free option. Will this mean the park-and-ride lots (which are already over capacity) will be more heavily used? Logically, Falcon Heights street parking will be more plentiful for people who want to pay.

Has anyone who's been there these first few days had any observations about how things might have shifted?

My hack will still be the same: park a mile or so away and bike there. It's so easy and free, it feels like cheating. My first option for street parking to bike from has been Como Ave, but it'll probably fill up earlier now because of what Falcon Heights is doing. Parking in the St. Paul neighborhoods east of Lexington Ave might turn out to be necessary.

When biking please please look out for cars that simply go right on red without stopping. We need you here. Also, arrested development on Sat. Night will play Mr Wendel It is one of my favorite hip hop tunes

Wait, what?! Arrested Development!? How was it?

I'm headed there Tuesday. Rosie Flores is playing two sets in the afternoon, and Los Lobos performs in the evening. To boot, Wild Horses--who opened for Charlie Crockett the other night--is out there as well.

It was hip hop night at the fair. I enjoyed Arrested Development (who appeared engaged). Teen nieces and nephews did not and cut out early.

Also, RC’s - I skipped Kalua pork.. not sure about collar pork?

Ha, my 27-year-old daughter enjoyed Los Lobos last night...for a while. She bolted a little more than halfway through the show, which she said in advance she was going to do. A nice surprise: Rosie Flores--who'd played two sets at the same stage that afternoon--joined Los Lobos on stage for the last several songs. I think they all go back aways in Texas.

On the parking front, only 4,000 short of a record attendance for the first Tuesday, so I was suprised how easy it was to park. I didn't arrive in the area until 11:00 (took a Teams meeting in the car from 11-12), and I was able to park along eastbound Como Ave less than a half mile away from the fairgrounds. My apocalyptic fears about the effect the Falcon Heights parking charges would have on nearby streets seems to have been unjustified. We'll see what things are like when I visit again first thing in the morning on Labor Day.

I'm always careful about biking along Como, especially once you get close. It's an obstacle course of danger from any and all directions. I'm crazy in that I find that fun.

We heading to the fair on Saturday. Yes it gonna be really crowded. But we couldn't go on Tuesday do to my mom not feeling well. We going to be leaving really early to get to the Roseville grace church before the buses start running.

Park on Roselawn, bike down Cleveland to U St Paul Campus, there is a bike lot where Buford runs into the fair.
