Gopher Hockey Recruiting

Nathan Horton's kid, a big 4 star forward going to the NTDP commits to PSU. Kinda like the Conboy commitment.

Rumors the Gophers will add a 15th forward (no brainer...), but seems it's not Nevers. That means it's either Reid (yikes) or a surprise. A surprise is more fun, of course.

Who are the potentials aside from existing commits?

No idea. Could be a star from CHL. Could be another D3 guy. I'm actually surprised he isn't just bringing Nevers in to be the 14th forward with the D3 kid as the 15th.

If we each want to throw out a random guess, I'll say Alex Lunski flipping from UST.

Whoever it is better be right handed. Kvasnicka is a right-handed forward…

Adam Valentini, potential first rounder next year, is going to Michigan a year early.

solid on a bad steel team last year as a 16 year old. good player but always tough for a 17 year old to roll in and be great in college hockey as he's not the generational guy like a Celebrini or what it looks like Mckenna should be.

Let's see if he puts up more points than Moe or Moore. If Kvasnicka comes in that will be a good head to head as he would have been a senior in HS this year, too, had he not accelerated.

Are we also comparing Mooney to some random Michigan 3rd-4th line guy committed to play that role? Your analogy makes no sense. Seems weird if Michigan wanted him all along to make the move now.

Some of these guys light it up in the D-1 year. Most won’t. We’ll see how it goes but I wouldn’t use points to decide that.

My point is their recruiting class including transfers blows the Gopher one out of the water

Why bother debating Bonin. He is always right and will never open his thinking to anyone else's views.

eh it's like talking with your grouchy friend who you have sat by for years and you just accept them for who they are, hoping maybe deep down some random pieces resonate so they can have some shred of hope in their lives. ya know they love the game (and deep down the team, though getting their hopes up is just too much to ask). and you think one day maybe they buy you the beer instead of the other way around.

plus this site is pretty well dead and i enjoy talking hockey, regardless of curmudgeonly status of the person i'm talking to

Michigan is an awesome, vastly superior program to us in every way. And since according to bonin national titles are everything, I assume Michigan has won multiple titles in the 21st century. I won't look it up, but surely that must be the case.

sure. on paper michigan's recruiting class looks great again. Naurato i'm pretty fascinated to see what Michigan does with him. Signed through 2028 on one of the bigger deals in college hockey but have barely finished over .500 in the B10 each of his 3 years and last year was a major regression. don't know if they have the desire to fire him this year, but with another team that looks like a bubbler, would envision his seat gets warm unless they do something in the postseason (I don't see it with what looks like another defensively frail team, but joy of one and done. And i'll be interested what happens with their recruiting. Very quiet to start this year. May be some of the long game but also have michigan state and psu poaching players they normall get (MI is going to be hurt far far more by their rise than say MN).

On the note of the incoming guys, not specific to Valentini in particular, but I'm very interested to see what happens with all these CHL kids (and incoming Fr for that matter) come semester break now that they in theory can move back and forth. going to be some of these guys who are not going to get their "role" at this level. Guy like Valentini, for example, is probably not going to walk into Michigan's top 6 and could be 1st line and PP1 in Canada this year. Can't imagine his team will be super pumped with him specifically coming back with how he left, but i'd expect there's a pretty reasonable ebb and flow of guys throughout the year out. don't quite know how the hockey schollies are written and if the B10 has the guarantee for 4 years.

You can always ignore Vanek 26 if you dont want to read his opinion.
Huh? I wasn't being critical of Vanek 26. Not at all. I enjoy his contributions. I am simply pointing out that my life has improved since I hit the "ignore" button with a certain poster. He's just not worth any emotional energy.

Gotcha, sorry about confusion. I'm pretty sure I know what poster you have on ignore. His moniker is a former Gopher great with his number. Correct?

Good get for UND. Looks like a lot of the big schools in this area may not have offered. Not the worst local kid to lose to the green pukes, but should be a solid 4 year guy.

Minnesota kids going all over is a borderline red flag to me of crazy parents especially a kid that could probably play for any of WBL/Gentry/Hill/Stillwater
And while this kid is a good player, he's not a Cullen Potter or Lucius brothers type of talent to offset that.

yeah your point above is the weird part of calling him a "local kid". pretty much played AAA the whole way up aside from the one year playing in WBL bantams. doesn't look like any local schools offered and his other visits were planned to OSU and ASU. Nothing wrong with wanting to be out of MN for some kids though.
Agree with bonin though seems more and more common this day and age and depends on what agent/handler is saying and for how long so dislike the attaching crazy parent title without there being more to the story.
