A fascinating subplot of this season for me, particularly following the fire sale, has been the makeup of the bullpen and the mysterious journeymen that have found their way into a Twins uniform. I'm not including any homegrown products in the following list, this is a compilation of the veteran arms that have joined the Twins throughout this season, often to my suprise and bewilderment:
Darren McCaughan (age 29)-Did you blink and miss the McCaughan experience? His season with the Twins has looked like this:
March 31-joined the Twins from St. Paul
April 7-designated for assignment
April 11-signs minor league contract w/St. Paul
August 4-called up from St. Paul
August 5-designated for assignment
August 7-sent to St. Paul
In the midst of this banjo season, McCaughan's not been bad, albeit in only 5.1 innings with one earned run given up (equates to a 1.69 ERA)

ERA under 3.00: if the Twins keep him down in St. Paul (or he's called up and continues his hot streak), it'll be this season. His next lowest ERA was 5.40 in 2023.
Brooks Kriske (31)
In 2020, he recorded a 14.73 ERA for the Yankees, followed by 2021, where with the Yanks it was 15.26 and with the Orioles 12.27. Even though he hadn't given up any runs in 6 innings for the Cubs this season, they released him and the Twins pounced.

Thomas Hatch (30)
Unlike many others on this list, his career stats aren't too bad and you could maybe see a pathway towards a role in next year's bullpen if he pitches decently the rest of this season.

Teams played for: Blue Jays, Pirates, Royals and Twins
ERA under 3.00: 2.73 in 2020 with the Jays
Erasmo Ramirez (35)
Erasmo's been bouncing around MLB since 2012 and pitched 60 games for the Nationals as recently as 2022. There's been many more lows than highs, but he's played in the majors for parts of 14 years now.

10 win season: 11 wins, Rays in 2015
ERA under 3.00: Mets (0.63, 2020); Nationals (2.92, 2022)
Noah Davis (28)
It's been a rough 2025 for Davis--in his brief time with the Twins he accumulated a 15.00 ERA which was actually an improvement from his time with the Dodgers earlier this season where he had an ERA of 19.50.

Teams played for: Rockies, Dodgers, Twins
Anthony Misiewicz (30)
Currently on the 15 day DL, which possibly has extended his time longer on this roster, because the 10.38 ERA in four games wasn't cutting it.

Teams played for: Mariners, Yankees, Royals, Diamondbacks, Tigers, and Twins
ERA under 3.00: 0.00 (Yankees, 2024)--a bit of context is needed--he pitched one inning in one game, gave up two hits and one walk, and someone got out of the inning without surrendering a run.
Joey Wentz (27)
You could say that his very brief stint with the Twins was an outlier, as his ERA was 10 runs over his career average, but when your career ERA is 5.51, that's not saying much. He has caught on with the Braves after his release and has sported a 3.09 ERA in five games, so. . .good for him.

ERA under 3.00: Pirates (1.50, 2024)
Jose Urena (33)
How Urena arrived to the Twins is mysterious--his signing is not listed on the ESPN transactions page nor on Baseball Reference--in my imagination, he just figured it was worth showing up on August 2 or 3, head to the clubhouse, grab a jersey, and no one knows any better. The Twins are the fourth team he's played with in 2025 and he hasn't recorded a decision yet this year.

10+ wins: Marlins (14 wins, 2017)
Jonah Bride (29)
Yes, Bride is a position player, but he's pitched more innings this season for the Twins than Davis, Misiwicz, McCaughan, and perhaps some others above him (I'm giving the newcomers a bit of rope). Bride shouldn't quit his day job though, even if it landed him back in St. Paul--he accumulated a 15.00 ERA over those six innings.

Stay tuned! We have over a month and a half of the season yet to play.
