All about Max Brosmer Making the Cut

Purple Daily said yesterday that he might legitimately be the 2nd best qb on roster right now.
LOVE that for Max (sign me up for a jersey if he makes the team), but probably not a good sign for the Vikings. But who knew Darnold would be as good as he would be last year, so maybe KOC really is the QB whisperer.

I don’t think Max will make the roster. Maybe practice squad, but I’m not convinced that’s a sure thing either. I

I know last Friday KFAN coverage were questioning if Howell should be the backup ... or if they should try to bring back Kirk....

That could easily just be Danny B trying to stir s--t up for a juicy talking point, though

Come on Max, keep get better every day. I don't want to see Cousins in a Vikings uniform again.

I can't imagine we choose to pay him ... if we already chose not to pay him ...
Maybe he'll do a Russell Wilson and play for next to nothing, knowing his former team (Falcons) are still giving him the guaranteed money?

That being said, not sure it's good for JJ to have a former vikings starting QB lingering on the sidelines.

Hypothetically, if Max were the QB on a stacked 2023 Michigan team where he mostly had to hand the ball off and had an O Line that gave him all day to throw the ball, and JJ was the QB for a good but not great Gophers team in 2024, where do each of them end up getting drafted?
JJ probably goes in the top 3 rounds and Max probably goes in like the 5th.

JJ McCarthy is bigger, faster, stronger, bigger arm and 2 years younger than Brosmer.

I don't think Cousins comes into play unless he negotiates a buyout with the Falcons. We aren't paying him the $28 million per year. That said, a buyout is certainly a possibility and he could be had for something similar to Daniel Jones received.

That said, Cousins and the Falcons are probably waiting to see if a starting position opens up. It might not make a ton of sense for Cousins to eat any money to leave the Falcons to be a backup here.

This is the thing that makes me nervous about JJ McCarthy. He violates my #1 pet rule for QBs...uncommon success on an okay team without all the advantages. For example, I loved Dak Prescott and Russell Wilson coming out of college for those reasons...making Mississippi State and NC State good. I loved Drew Brees back in the day. Then again, I also loved Johnny Football so what do I know.

Penix, who made Indiana and Washington rise to new heights, was my guy in last year's class. I trust KOC as a judge and developer of QB talent and he knows vastly more than I do. But it still concerns me that someone like Max Brosmer could very well have won a natty on that Michigan team.

He lit up the Gophers I know that.

Yeah JJ did his job in the role he was set to do ... but it that role wasn't to be a great QB .. and on a team with all the advantages, including the other teams signals.

I just dunno man .... just not a lot we can look at and even get a clue about with someone like that.

I think Bob Loblaw's answer to my question was pretty reasonable. By no means do I think JJ and Max are equivalent prospects, but I am a skeptic on JJ. I hope like hell he goes and proves me wrong.

Makes ya wonder if guys like him and Vince Young were to come into the league now - would they do better because the offenses would be familiar to them, and even customized to them, versus them having to adjust to what NFL offenses used to be.

100%.

There's no way Brosmer is the backup to JJ but the thought the Sam Howell won't be the backup is picking up a lot of steam.

Max is looking good in camp but there is zero change he's QB2. He could be QB3 if they keep three on the roster. If Howell isn't good enough the Vikings will bring in another vet QB to be QB2.

As for the question above about if JJ and Max switched college teams where would they get drafted. JJ would still be a 1st rd pick, Max might have gone in the draft. But I think had Max played his entire career with the Gophers he likely also goes in the draft.

Would’ve loved to have & see Max with Gophers for year two this year, he for sure be drafted.

Imagine us with Max this year?! Pheeeewwww, we be 🔥

Yeah, too bad he wasn't here his whole career. May have been a mid to late round pick after taking over for Tanner Morgan.

Perhaps I dont know the whole story, but isn’t this effectively how Tom Brady became, well, Tom Brady?

He had the defensive play signals for years, and learned to read a D because of it?
