I think that’s a spot on deal for Naz. Probably going to lose one of NAW or Randle for it (would assume NAW) unless Julius wants more years at a lower dollar amount.
 






My guess is it means that Julius is gone unless he takes less money or he opts in.
 






the obsession with "starter" is still hilarious to me. Hartenstein started for OKC. He played 22 min a game in the playoffs (28 regular season). He makes almost 30mil a year. Naz played 25 min a game in the playoffs (28 regular season). He makes 25mil a year now (supposedly his cap hit will be right around 21.4).

I think you gotta take a look at what bigs make in this league now and see who the company is around him at that price point. (Brook Lopez makes 24. Tobias Harris got 26. Nick Claxton got 24.) Coupling that with getting a guy heading into his prime who can play small ball 5 versus with Rudy while being at the 4 because he spaces the floor is a big deal.

Naz gets better the more he plays. When he started when Randle was out, he put up better numbers than him. He really struggled off the bench at times this year. That’s why he needs more minutes and that comes at the expense of Rudy and Randle, and why at least one of them won’t be here long term. Then Naz will start.

again I don't really care who "starts". I care who plays and if that role suits their game. Hell if Ant somehow was better off the bench and sat the opening tip but played 35min a night, that's just fine with me.

Naz's minutes have gone up every year. Would guess he's between 27-30. I trust Finch to play him to where he maximizes his potential. There's no way for us to continue to afford Rudy and Randle long-term so yes agree entirely.

Non starters aren't going to play 35 minutes per game. Then it's pointless to start someone over them. Naz needs to play 30-35 minutes a game. To get there, he will have to be a starter at some point and he will be soon. So it does matter who starts.

Players care though. Naz stated he wants to start. It matter to him. Might not happen right away, but he will eventually.

Ant would never agree to come off the bench.

do you care about him starting or playing the 35 min a game? that's what i'm saying. Don't care how he gets there as long as he gets to his minutes mark. i share your sentiment i would like to see him play more and if it means him starting, that's just fine as long as that's what Naz wants (he seems to) and it works for the team (it seems to).

I'm hoping this signing marks the end of the Randle era in Minnesota. Not sure what kind of trades are out there for backup PF's, but I'm sure they can find someone.

I'm bummed Ball was traded to Cleveland. He would have been a good addition for one year while they figure out if Dilly can be a starter or not.

I understand what you're saying but the math doesn't make sense. Naz isn't playing 35 minutes off the bench. Then the player who started ahead of him would play significantly less. You cannot play Naz 35 minutes, and Julius Randle and Rudy Gobert 33 minutes. There's not enough time in the game at the PF/C position.

latter part i agree. One of those 3 has to go as the rotations just become impossible. Again, all i'm saying is I don't care who starts as long as the players don't care and they get minutes (and are effective in those minutes). Think Naz has earned more time and that they're viewing him that light (think this contract shows they are). Would envision they're looking at moving Randle but we may be stuck with him this year. If they extend him, then this gets really confusing as to what they're doing.

Randle played better defense in the playoffs than Naz.

Naz was a damn turnstile.

Naz was not good the second half and not good in the playoffs.

I'm against this, but what choice did they have.
