Per Pat:

How would Haskins’ tough love work in the pay-for-play, immediate transfer era? Medved could only smile at that thought.

Did Haskins ever put on a shooting exhibition for the student managers?

“Not often with those knees, but I remember we played St. John’s in the Garden, and we’re having a shootaround,” Medved said. “There were Knicks around, John Starks, those guys. Clem goes down to the basket, grabs a ball, and he banks in a layup, and keeps moving back, and he keeps making shots, and pretty soon he’s out there 20-some feet, and still making ’em.

“And he says, ‘I still got it.’ ”

Clem the Gem. Niko loves the guy. Which is good enough for me.

Welcome back, coach. Good luck in taking the dreariness out of old Barn.

Go Gophers!!

I would love for Niko to bring back a version of Musselman's pregame shoot around routine.

The best part of the column was Reusse's comparison of Coyle at the beginning of NIL to Calvin Griffith at the dawn of free agency. They both "abstained from digging for dollars."

Ha! As they said about another cheapskate, George Halas, “throws dimes around like they are manhole covers”.

We'll never know if Johnson could have been halfway decent because Coyle kept insisting that he was doing NIL "the right way" at the time. According to Reusse, the gophers are now at about $6M. The top programs are in the $7-10M range. Better than it was, but still a ways to go.

Lots of interesting tangents and questions to NIL...here's one:
Richard Pitino had JT Toppin as a freshman at New Mexico. He had Donovan Dent who was reportedlt offered $3 million by Kentucky but signed with UCLA for more money.

Then Richard had Tonje for a minute...

Toppin, Dent, and Tonje on the same team would have been impressive. and effective.

Ben’s coaching tenure was hobbled by the admin. Greatness awaits. Montana St and N. Ill. Will also be weeping.
