Williams Arena named 33rd best atmosphere in CBB.

Some of those are questionable. Is Mackey really a better atmosphere than Assembly Hall or Breslin? Same with whatever they're calling the Illinois place these days: is that really better than Hinkle?

It's good to be recognized, though, especially since we haven't been ourselves for some time.
The grass is always greener….

Williams Arena with a good Gopher team and a full house is 100% a top 5 basketball atmosphere.
Problem is nobody has seen it for 25 years because our teams have only flashed for a month or so and even that on rare occasion.
Get us in a top 4 spot perenially in the conference like Purdue, Michigan St and Indiana typically do and Williams Arena is ahead of all Big Ten teams and a top 5 basketball atmosphere for certain.
But you gotta have the team. The top of the list all win games.

I'm starting a list of best posters. Send me your crypto, I mean nominations, to me via DM. I'll compile them with all the due diligence y'all deserve, just like these venues.

The students have to be more engaged to move up this list. One row of barn animals doesn't qualify.
Times change and I could be wrong too but when Williams was rockin'...Musselman, Dutcher eras..I don't recall there even was a student section. They could sell and did sell lower level tickets
for full price with people clamoring to get access. I think students had a section upstairs?

Scalping tickets was a riot...I bought and sold tickets for more than face value. Singles were
treated like the plague. I sat first 5 rows in one of those single seats for cheap and made good money selling every home game. Tried my luck at some away games too....never as lucrative but I sat courtside.

Duke and some other places, i know the students are a big part of things. Was not necessary at Williams Arena. Play the rouser and watch opponents cover their ears at the sound of Minnesota! Minnesota!

The student section was upper deck, during Mussy years, if I recall. My brother in law, a little older than me was going to the U in the early 70s and would have me get there early to save a couple spots in the student section. When I say early- an hour and a half early! Get the seats, wait, watch the pre game show (amazing) and later, the game. What a blast!

I remember the student section being in the upper deck until the renovation in the mid 90s, at which time it was moved to the end, next to the pep band. Do I remember that right?

Pretty sure you guys remember correctly. The students were there in striped rugby shirts, etc. but definitely not the center of rowdiness or focus. The entire Barn was rocking w/Juli Perlt on PA.

I think that seems about right.

There are not 32 better CBB venues than the Barn.

There are absolutely 32+ venues with a better atmosphere than The Barn, at least over the last 10-15 years.

I hope that begins to change in November, but we have a long way to go to get back into the Top 10 which is where we belonged for many years.

Go Gophers!!
