I don't know if the coaching staff showed any interest in him (or whether he had any interest in returning) but I would have been fine with him returning. I think he's a bit better than the average forward available at this point.

He's probably dropped to the proper level of play for himself.
 


His game is really tough to fit into a Big 10 team. For a player who is a wing/forward tweener, he is remarkably bad at playing within the rhythm of a system. He has 32 career assists in over 1500 minutes played. He also isn't a high volume shooter or rebounder, which means he spends most of his time doing absolutely nothing on the court except clog up the offense.
