Vote Yes if you feel St Thomas basketball discussion has no place on Gopher Basketball Forum.
Vote NO if you would prefer to make the choice whether to read about St Thomas basketball on Gopherhole's Golden Gopher Basketball Forum. Basically leaving it like it was last basketball season.

Take it to the St Thomas board.

Issue has been resolved. A separate area for St. Thomas discussion is being created. No need for a vote.
I don't see any forum, yet. I leave it to the owners to decide. I don't mind threads of mutual interest, but there are some who are clearly lovers of St Thomas and peripheral followers of the Gophers who are pushing their team on this board. It is, as bga mentioned, like Xavier fans going onto the Cincinnati board to talk Xavier sports. There is no call for such action. Take it to that teams board.
If the GH owners desire to accommodate a forum for a rival (be it at the moment a small rival) then it's their rightful choice. If they wish to leave it as it is, then so be it. If they wish to expunge all references to the Tommies from the board, like they did with a certain panther, then fine with me. My opinion really isn't important to what the owners do.

Ha USA! USA! USA! We still vote here.
We have no vote. The Gopherhole is not a democracy, it's a benevolent dictatorship, as is any owned business. You seem to imagine you are entitled to something here.

As St. Thomas becomes more relevant in Div 1 sports, there will be news we’ll want to hear. We discuss many other teams here in multiple sports. Why relegate only St. Thomas to its own board? We weathered the NDSU onslaught, and we can do the same with St. Thomas, which so far seems a lot more quiet than the Bison were.

If the issue pertains to a bigger whole, it doesn't bother me. But, that is not what is happening. Even this thread shows a persistence by a person who loves Tommy sports over the Gophers. It is the diehard Tommy fan that can go elsewhere.
I am in allegiance with the Minnesota Gophers sports and no others. If I held allegiance to another, I would go to their board to post.

I would like mods to delete posts/threads as needed. Should happen more often.
I was on one board where the thread was locked after 200 posts. After that a new thread needed to be created. I found that by the 200th post the topic was already far off from the original post and I liked the policy.

And if a business hopes to thrive...they listen to the wishes of their customers.

The mods have the ability to move posts that have gone off topic to a new thread and have done so before. I’m just not for a total ban of mentioning St. Thomas, or any other school, in a normal conversation, which is what the poll question was about.

I didn't answer the poll as the question is biased.

Its not about allegiance rather one of interest. UST is basketball related and that is under the umbrella of "college basketball." The same for topics about Richard Pitino, Buzz Williams, etc. There are a good number of posters on GH who would actually like to see the Gophers and UST on the schedule annually.l

UST posts should not be considered "off topic" as they are under the umbrella of college basketball.

Maybe the mods should eliminate the term "college basketball" under their purpose statement. I doubt they would do that.

I voted no for two reasons, which means I voted yes,

1. I could care less about St Thomas.

2. I could care even less about who cares about St Thomas. Just want it to go away.

Is this the "Tommy Hole?" Is there anything in this entire board that says "enter the Tommy Hole?"
Of course not. If you are desperate for a little "Tommy Hole" go look elsewhere. It's really that simple.

This fabulous forum states this at the top of its home page -

The Golden Gopher Basketball Forum is where die-hard Gopher basketball fans talk about the program, upcoming games, recruiting, and college basketball.

Based on that description , this is an appropriate place for the discussion.

Additionally, it’s not like there’s multiple specific threads dedicated to Tommy Talk!!

Last time I checked GH isn't the "FinnGopher" Hole either. Its really that simple.
Am I a competing University with the Gophers? No. Just because you want the Tommies to get props at this site and I don't doesn't mean I hold any sway here. I come here to read about the Gophers and what's happening in that circle. I don't come here to read about St Thomas players or their goings on. That's great stuff for a dedicated St Thomas website.

It is not like Xavier fans talking on a Cincy board (which probably happens, btw). It's like UNO news on Creighton's site or Robert Morris on a Pitt message board. There's just very little the programs (UST and MN) have in common other than geography. I do not understand why so many take umbrage at discussion of a program in a far lesser league - they are not in competition with one another.

We are going to create a Off-Topic St. Thomas/Summit League Basketball Board for those that want to specifically discuss St. Thomas and/or Summit League Basketball. We will not do this for other teams or leagues but it's clear there is distinct interest in St. Thomas specifically and it is also clear that there are Gopher fans that are unable to not click a St. Thomas thread without getting upset. So this allows an expansion of St. Thomas/Summit League discussion and won't impact the Gopher Basketball Forum (which will continue to include college basketball discussion in general), in fact it should eliminate the angst that some have when a St. Thomas discussion pops up.

We appreciate the feedback and believe this will allow continued Gopher Basketball and college basketball discussion without distraction of St. Thomas/Summit League on this forum.

As with all new ideas, we reserve the right to change course as we evaluate the effectiveness of the new Board which we anticipate will be live in the next week or so.

Thank you.

Yes is crushing it. Stop the count!
I was doing some research: The independent think tank...Iowa Research Institute of Online Polls suggest that statistical studies indicate a plus or minus 7.1% for margin of error. Seems pretty much a tossup?

There is a small group of people that seem to want to have UST take over a portion of our great Gopher Hole!

This is not an issue of talking about non-gopher topics or even UST topics in various forms. It is the attempt to create a permanent thread as a home for Tommy fans to gather and discuss their team. A thread that could attract Tommy fans and make it very easy for them to spam our Gopher threads.

The administrator has offered to create an off-topic thread that UST fans can use as a place to have as their home. This is outside of the main GH Basketball threads and the would be out of sight to the typical Gopher fan. This a good compromise and we will see how it works.

Do not be confused by their mischaracterization of the issue by claiming it is a censorship or an attempt to limit discussions. This is Gopher Hole and we just want to keep it focused on OUR fans.
