With every transfer I go through this paradoxical thinking. “Oh shoot, they took a transfer in the X room. Should we be worried about that group?” And then “Well the transfer they took should help to shore up that group and they’ll be good now. So I shouldn’t worry about them right?”

Then that repeats a few times until I get distracted. Anyways, welcome the new DeJean!

Experience is always a good thing. And coming from the Hawkeyes, who have a consistently stellar defense, is another plus. Going to be interesting to see how the cornerback room is this year. Zaquan Bryan showed last year that he is probably going to be another in a growing list of excellent Gopher d-backs. I think he has All Big-Ten potential.

Well now. Seeing Iowa #1 in Hog production I will be enjoying my ham this afternoon. 🐷🐽🐖

Interesting add, based on the Iowa boards sounds like Parker raved about about him, but he struggled and looked over matched in games. They don’t seem too upset about him leaving, even joking that our secondary now looks beatable.

Holy cow!

I'm just checking in after a full day of too much Easter revelry in order to say to Mr. Nestor: WELCOME! YOU ARE NOW A GOPHER AND FOREVER IN OUR HEARTS. ...PLUS, IT APPEARS YOU'RE ABOUT TO BE A MAJOR PART OF THE TEAM. :)

God is good and works in many way.

Most of his snaps came on run plays—65 in total. Only 14 passes were thrown his way, and 11 of those were caught. I'm not impressed with his coverage skills. He seems like a solid tackler, but we need players who can cover downfield. I don't see him as a potential starter. He'll probably be used more of a utility player and on special teams.

Maybe a Henderson replacement?

Nice comparison, but I wouldn’t go that far. Henderson was seriously underrated in my opinion. He has NFL-level talent and made some big plays for us. I really think this was more of a special teams decision. Judging by the reaction, Iowa fans seem pretty happy to see him go.

I saw more fans initially upset that he’s transferring. Maybe I’m over thinking it, but do you really expect an Iowa fan to endorse anything positive regarding MN???

It's the internet....you will be able to find fans that are mad he is leaving and you will be able to find fans that are glad he is leaving.... :)

What we know at this point is that the coaches see something in him that they like enough to offer him a roster spot. Won't really know what kind of role he will play until we get into fall camp and see how the position groups are shaping up.

One thing to keep in mind is that he is still young and could develop into something, some Iowa fans suggest he should be a safety not a cb. But I agree, based on how he performed for Iowa last year according to what their fans are saying, I don’t see him as a starter this year or having a major role really outside of special teams maybe. Seems like a similar type add as Jai’onte’ McMillan.

He only has 2 years of eligibility left. McMillan is an excellent comparison.

Iowa's secondary struggled the last 1-2 years and this guy couldn't crack the starting line-up...... From the games I saw he struggled in man and zone coverage and once the wr caught the ball he didn't make the best tackles.
Maybe he's best suited for ST being a gunner.

Yeah, they were excited until he actually started playing....lol
Going to trust our coaches more than Iowa fans....he very well might just be a special teams player or reserve but coaches felt he was worth a roster spot so they saw something they liked about him enough to bring him on board.

With knowledge of what an invalid fair catch signal means.

I'm only saying that because he seems to be kind of in between a safety and cb. Probably not as fast as Henderson was and likely not as big (yet) either.

I would agree with this assessment. They had a revolving door at 1 CB spot and SS/FS spots were hit and miss at best. Without question the worst Iowa secondary in the last decade.

I thought he'd be in the mix at a safety spot eventually or maybe their nickel but judging from Iowa's portal attempts they're not happy with a lot in their defensive backfield.

You never know how a recruit will turn out regardless of ratings coming out of HS. He may have not performed as well as expected in Iowa's scheme and the competitive talent around him. A change of scenery may be mutually beneficial to him and Gopher Football.
