Minnesota 2025-2026

In the way-too-early top 25 from ESPN, Gophers are among three teams "also considered," presumably meaning they're top 28.
UCLA, USC, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Maryland, Washington, and Ohio State all above Gophs.

I am hoping for 11- 7 in Conference play.

Home wins against: Neb, Wis, NW, Purdue
Away wins against: Illinois, Indiana, Oregon,
Wis, Rutgers, PSU

Home loses to: UCLA, USC
Away loses to: Mich, Iowa , Washington

That leaves Maryland, OSU, and MSU... all at home. If we go 1 - 2 against those three... I believe that puts us at 11 - 7

Pretty optimistic...

Depending on who USC loses and if Juju doesn't come back by next season, they could definitely beat USC.

Juju isn't playing next season.

If the Gophers get an impact big in the portal, they could have a pretty good year.

UCONN is repeating. Strong is the best player in the country, Fudd is a lottery pick, KK Arnold is a high caliber PG ready to takeover the reigns.

A lot of seniors on next year's team. And hopefully some players returning in good health. I think they should go out and grab atleast one good portal player and shoot for top three finish in the big ten. 11-7 should be the floor how about 14-4. Come on!

I am all in...

I'm a 12-6 believer. Coach P will have a more solid defense. Shooters, there will be someone stepping up to become another double digits scorer. Should Heyer improve her shot l, see a double double machine and maybe a triple double. Hart needs to improve her shot and use of her body in the paint. If Christen is as good as advertised, we'll have our scores in the 80's and the opponents held in the 60's.

The Athletic has Gophers #16 in the way too early Top 25 Rankings:

And a nod to the WBIT champs, Minnesota. Even without Mara Brown, the Golden Gophers’ core of Amaya Battle, Grace Grocholski and Tori McKinney did some special things to close out the 2024-25 season. If Braun can ever be healthy, and this ranking presupposes that, Minnesota has so many long, versatile forwards/wings and is a modern basketball fan’s dream.

Obviously they spelled Mara’s name wrong.

I like it!

I look at Williams Arena as being an enduring structure. I am sure it was built with a firm foundation and then 'brick-by-brick.' The players, Coach P and her staff are working on building an enduring structure.

I know the NCAA tournament is the goal and a national championship as the ultimate.

If the players and coaching staff do their work on a daily basis, one practice at-a-time, one game at-a-time, the goal may eventually come to them and to us as fans.

I won't grade next season on whether they make the NCAA... I will grade them whether the program is providing me value (entertainment) for $$$ spent. The WBIT this year provided me entertainment... and after all, it is all-about-me.

and spell it right as well.. like huh?

Maybe I’m being too optimistic but maybe Coyle and the administration should clear Williams arena schedule next March? This year hosting in the first 2 rounds was like a hot potato with no team getting a firm grasp for the 4 last spots. Maybe the Gophers can seize a spot?
Let's make the Big Dance and not worry about a secondary tournament. Top 16 seeds get first & second round games at home. Otherwise, you hit the road.

Looks like more of a practice player. Can’t imagine she will see the court much. Really wish we could get a more dominant post player, but guessing that’s not happening.
A 6'2" experienced player that played 17 minutes a game and shoots 43% from 3 might just fit the rotation.
Interesting that they have a 3rd sister that was a 5th year senior starter for UAB.

We have a lot of game experienced players coming back. Going to be a lot of competition for playing time.

I'm wondering if the intent is to have a combination of Zoey, Tracey, and Niamya be Sophie's backup. Zoey could end up being great if the goal is to grow our own post player rather than relying on the portal every year or two.

Difficult to know. Unless a MN player wants to play at home, portal recruiting has not been a strength for the program. Could be money, playing time, cold winters.

Agree. I wonder if they leave the open scholarship for next year.

This reminds me of Gophers Volleyball when they added Mckenna Wucherer’s big sister Miranda to the volleyball team for her grad transfer year. It’s something the Gopher’s can provide to their players (playing with family and team chemistry) that doesn’t require NIL money. Miranda didn’t play much in matches her grad year with the volleyball team, but from all I read was a good contributor at practice and for team culture. I could see this playing out similar, while still providing depth and an experienced mentor to a position of need.

Yeah, this move makes me think that the coaches are confident in how good Zoey Bershers will be if they wanted to give her this "extra value."

She may or may not play but 78.3% of her shots the last 2 years came from 3 at a 39.3% clip. Obviously it’s at a lower level but around better teammates she might thrive in her role as a stretch big. Also it’s not like Annika Stewart was amazing at Nebraska before her role expanded with the gophers. I like the add.

also how fun that they get to play college ball together for one season..

Wonder if they will use the last spot for younger player with few years of eligibility, as next year, unless rules change or things happen a lot will be going. Still think Gracie Johnson from Utah State would be one to consider. Little more height that could learn well from the veterans.
