Chansey Willis Jr Commits

Where did I imply what? All I said is that I better not show any optimism or the pessimists would come down on me. (Thanks for proving my point).

Now stop derailing the thread.
It is okay to be optimistic. All of us reflect our own experiences, nothing more. Don't take criticism personally. It's not about you. I am thrilled with the addition of Mr Willis, Jr. Let's see what he can do!

Yes. Chris Webber was suppose to come with Voshon Lenard but an agent or booster did something to prevent him from coming here or face sanctions if he did come(how ironic now).
Clem blames it on Rick Bay. I heard there was an allegation of some improper aspect to his official visit. Bay instructed Clem to break off contact while it was looked into internally, and Webber slipped away as a result.

Chris sat in a dome luxury suite and was identified by a Michigan State coach who tattled. Against recruiting rules. Bay pounced. The rest is history. At least we didn’t lose a national championship because of a boneheaded timeout with none left.

To this day, Clem claims that they were a Webber away from national title contention back then.

I swore this off after Favre through across his body in the Saints game. My head agrees with you but my heart simply won't let me.

If you're at all interested in that era of basketball, the Michigan HS championship game from that year (and the previous) is on Youtube. Their junior season, it was Jalen Rose, Voshon Lenard and Howard Eisley on the same team.

According to Mitch albom's book, "fab five", that coach was.. izzo. It doesn't mention much about Webber considering Minnesota but he does say that's when Webber swore off going to Michigan State.

They probably gave him cream cheese for his bagel. Clem should have known better...

Pastor Luke Witte & Corky made their peace long ago. Corky dedicated his professional years to civil rights & the City of Minneapolis. He raised two fine sons. He passed away from cancer. Now, with all due respect, that’s a fuller picture of the life of Corky Taylor.
he tried to teach me and a couple of buddies how to do a Thunderdunk way back in the day--we were playing on the 8 ft hoop at his wife's grandparents place. We were so far in the sticks that we didn't even know who he was until much later. And teaching short, white kids how to do fancy dunks is an uphill battle no matter how low the rim was.

I'd get excited about the recent transfers, but the board Negative Nancys will come down on me for being positive. :(
I was going to mention that I saw him play at St Thomas this year but then realized I couldn't duck fast enough from the "take it to the St Thomas board" people.

but now that i am here-- 13 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals-- 5 turnovers and 0-6 from 3. They had a couple guys play that were just coming back from injury so they looked a little out of sync all night. the 3 steals are impressive because St Thomas doesn't turn it over much- had 5 for the game.
I was impressed enough with them to wager a small amount on them beating NDSU 2 days later-- NDSU edged them by 36. Never underestimate what can happen to a bunch of college kids with a Saturday night off in Fargo ND- they don't play well on Sunday.

Any guesses to the number of times during the course of next season, that "Over Dribbling is a huge issue" is mentioned? Based on the last few years of watching the mens and womens forum, we Minnesota basketball fans HATE a point guard that dribbles too much for our liking.

The hope would be that we have a more well defined offensive system that doesn't allow that to happen nearly as much.

But the one thing you can count on is that those that are determined to find something to complain about will be able to do it. If it isn't over dribbling they will pick another issue. :)

No player is ever perfect until they get to heaven. Believe it or not, Bobby Jackson committed turnovers.

I think over-dribbling is definitely appropriate criticism. The truth of the matter is that if you have a player who is awesome on the pick and roll/iso, then clearing out and just letting a player create (dribble), can be effective. The problem is that very few players have that skillset and when average players do that it just cripples the offense.

If you have a quick PG who can breakdown a defense, and cause it to react to penetration in various ways (rotate, shade off a position, abandon a zone to bring help, etc.) that is purposeful dribbling. A PG like that dribbles to disrupt a defense and THEN passes, or exploits the disruption all the way to an easy basket. AKA Elijah Hawkins -- who was playing in the Elite Eight this year, if I recall correctly.

Willis looks like Hawkins, only 6'2". I'm pretty optimistic. Will be interesting to see how Willis and Asuma operate together on the court.
