Kordell Stewart doesn’t have his number retired. He won two bowl games and finished in the top 10 twice. But he wasn’t the coach's son. 🤷‍♂️

CU press release headline says jersey retirement. First paragraph mention their numbers.

Jersey retirement and Number retirement are completely different things.

All the chyrons I see on TV say jersey retirement but all their commentary is number retirement.

The whole cult of Deion is so off to me. When put in perspective to the 90s edit Bill McCartney (old MIchigan assistant, promise keeper guy) teams, this looks so bad.

Hunter being a great two way player is a different story, but this Sanders mess shits all over what he has done.

If I were a Colorado fan trying to see the momentum build I can see the appeal, but no.

What happens if Deion’s next QB wins more games?
I mean clearly he will get his number retired as well.....you aren't trying to imply that Deion is showing some kind of favoritism towards his son are you? Shadeaur Sanders is a college football legend who will be remembered forever for his..........I mean because he......well he won.......hmmmm....almost like the only real reason this is happening is because he is the coaches kid.....strange.... :)

Whatever McCarney built has been gone for a long time. Colorado was at rock bottom. IIRC we beat them 30-0 at their stadium, followed by a 49-7 thrashing that could have been 49-0 if not for a garbage time TD. That happened prior to coach Sanders arrival. Love him or hate him, he is selling hope to their fanbase.

Remember how much Kill was loved after Brewster? Heck, even Brewster was loved for a few minutes after Mason had grown stagnant and got fired. Much of that love for Kill was due to hope in having a head coach that was/ is competent.

Point being that it is normal for fanbases to have excitement about their program if they feel that there is hope. IMHO it will come down to whether or not coach Sanders will be able to pull in top notch talent to continue its ascent, or will the program go backwards? We all know that fans will grow tiresome if the program goes backwards.

It will be interesting to see if Deion can keep the momentum going in boulder without these two. I'm expecting him jumps ship at the first opportunity for more money and brighter lights. I'm actively rooting against Shadeur in the NFL, what a brat.

Deion tried to get to the NFL but it didn't work out this cycle. Would anticipate this probably being an annual thing.

As for Shadeur - my prediction is that he is going to be an NFL bust and I am really really glad we are not in the market for an early round QB this year. Let him be someone else's problem.

And it is a complete and total joke that his number was retired by dad.....Hunter fine but retiring Shadeur's number was ridiculous. Especially at a school that has had others wear #2 in the past that were way more worthy of having their number retired then Deion's kid. Just pathetic but not surprising either. The only real surprise is that he didn't retire Shilo's number as well. He probably floated the idea but someone was able to convince him it wasn't a good idea. :)

That's awesome....and honestly how it should be actually displayed.

I wonder how things work over there now that the both Sanders kids and Hunter are gone. Battle Royale to determine who Deion's new favorites are?

Clint Brewster is currently looking at his Dad going “Bruh—you could’ve done this for me….”

What I love is that Deion has been saying nobody would even be talking about this if Shadeur's last name wasn't Sanders....and the funny part is that he is right but not for the reason he thinks he is.

The only reason that Shadeur's number is being retired is because his daddy is the head coach. If his last name wasn't Sanders his number wouldn't be getting retired because he was just a good college QB who led his team to a .500 record and one mediocre bowl loss.

Accomplishments like the ones Shadeur had in his 2 years at Colorado would warrant recognition around the complex but don't come anywhere close to the level of a jersey retirement. Especially when there have been others at the school who wore the same number and did much more in the past.

Imagine if Deion didn't have Hunter to lump this in with, because while some think it is quick on Hunter nobody really has an issue with that one. Hunter was a generational talent who won the Heisman as an impact player on both offense and defense. If he was just trying to retire Shadeur's number he would be the laughingstock of the country.

This will look even more foolish if Shadeur doesn't have a great NFL career. When Sanders jumps ship in the near future it will be interesting to see if Colorado un-retires the number or maybe switches it from Shadeur to Figures.

Not a big deal, but I think you guys are referring to the late Bill McCartney, who was the national-title winning coach at Colorado.

Dan McCarney was the fairly successful coach at Iowa State and other places.
I thought it was Paul McCartney?

Yes. Big mistake.

Shadeur sliding in the draft....has massive bust potential written all over him.....but hey....at least Daddy made him feel special by retiring his college jersey.......lol.....
Most of the mocks I've seen the last couple days have had him going to the Steelers at the earliest, so I'm not sure how much of a slide it is. That said, I can't see him not getting drafted tonight. It'll be a very interesting situation to monitor 🧐

I actually can't wait to see the Buffs play this year as we will finally see if Deion can actually coach. Deion was blessed by the fact that his uber-talented son Shedeur was at his side to help him ascend in the college coaching ranks. In Deions first season of 2020 (Covid year) his Jackson State team was a 4-3 which meant nothing that year. However, the next 2 yrs at Jackson St and then the last 2 yrs at COLO, he has had Shedeur there to pave the way for him. These numbers say it all:

So, let's see what the next stage of Deion's career looks like without his son running the show for the offense. He'll have to put up with a kid who is likely 75% of what Shedeur was and won't put up near those type numbers. Then you subtract Travis Hunter from the mix and can we say regression. I can't wait to see him loosing his $hit on the sideline when another kid not named Shedeur is throwing INTs. I think Shedeur deserves all the praise he gets, but Deion must be losing his mind with no selection after 17 picks.

Turns out they retired the #2 at Colorado in honor of the round Shedeur is going to be picked in
Don't look now....Falcons just traded with the Rams and we know they love to take QBs....:)

But yeah....looks like Shadeur is headed for round 2....wonder which team will end up wasting their pick on him? So glad it won't be the Vikings.

Will Deion still refuse to let his son go to Cleveland when it's in round 2?
Will be interesting to see where he finally goes. They will try and spin it but there is no way they are not pissed that he didn't go in the first round. Looking like the story that came out about the disastrous interviews with Shadeur were real and not some team just blowing smoke to try and get other teams not to draft him.

Yup. I doubt there are many teams that want to deal with a mediocre quarterback with a giant ego and his meddling father with an even bigger ego.
