All Things 2024-25 College Basketball Coach Fired/Hired/Retired Thread

And we'll never hear the end of the Will Wade crap. What level of Purgatory is it where you have to listen to the Will Wade crap for eternity?
I think he will find tough sledding at NC State so we might not have to hear about that too long.

That Will Wade is a sparkling paragon of virtue, I tell you. “Will Wade of LSU had lamented the difficulties of unsuccessfully trying to recruit future Milwaukee Bucks point guard Javonte Smart. “I’ll be honest with you,” Wade had told Dawkins on the recording. “I’m fucking tired of dealing with the thing. This should not be that fucking hard.” Dawkins had agreed, as Wade said he’d made an offer to Smart that would be richer than an entry-level contract in the NBA. “I went to him with a fucking strong-ass offer about a month ago,” Wade had told Dawkins. “Fucking strong. It was a fucking hell of an offer.” But the money wouldn’t go directly to Smart, it seemed from Wade’s explanation to Dawkins; instead, it would be paid to the mother of the teenage player’s child. “I know why he didn’t take it now,” Wade had said. “It was fucking tilted toward the family a little bit. It was tilted toward taking care of the mom, taking care of the kid. Like it was tilted toward that. Now I know for a fact that he didn’t explain everything to the mom. I know now—he didn’t get enough of the piece of the pie in the deal.” From FBI wiretap, cited in the book Hot Dog Money, by Guy Lawson.
This stuff is legal now, but it wasn’t then, but that didn’t matter to our boy Will. He’s slime.

Agreed.....he cheated. But he can coach. And everything he did then is legal now. He will win big at NC State.
Ben, on the other hand is super nice. And by all accounts, followed all the rules. And he's a terrible coach.

Kinda sad, the press release spends 8 paragraphs expounding on his accomplishments at Richmond (in two separate stints) as well as at Princeton and his USAF college ball career. All it says about the Gophers is that he "most recently worked as an assistant coach with Minnesota out of the Big Ten for the past four seasons."

If his edge at LSU was that he cheated and now everyone can do it too, that gives me pause in thinking he will be successful at NC State.

Agreed. His advantage at McNeese was that he had much better players than the rest of the conference. I’m speculating that Self is in the same boat. His advantage has disappeared with legalized cheating.

We’ll see with Wade. His chances are better in ACC than Big Ten or SEC.
