Staff Announced

Here is some info on Gates who's the one we didn't know about yet I think:

Gates joins Medved's staff after a two-year tenure at Oklahoma. While with the Sooners, Oklahoma advanced to a NCAA tournament berth in 2025 for the first time in four years. Gates is no stranger to Big Ten play, having previously been an assistant coach at Oregon, Nebraska and Northwestern. Gates was an assistant at Oregon for the 2022-23 season and spent four seasons (2019-22) as an assistant coach at Nebraska. While there was instrumental in developing Dalano Banton and Cam Mack. Prior to his time with the Huskers, Gates was at Northwestern for five seasons (2013-18). Gates helped the Wildcats tally a pair of 20-win seasons and reach the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history in 2017. Gates also spent two seasons at Loyola Chicago (2011-13) during Porter Moser's first two seasons leading the program.

Go Gophers!!

"Gates graduated from Kent State in 2005 with a degree in leisure studies"

What a degree! Sounds like time spent hanging out on the quad throwing around a frisbee, enjoying a few beverages.
Great degree! Parks and Recreation type degree with lots of job opportunities in the world.

We were told by the futurists in the 1980s that we needed to be ready to use our vast leisure time well because we were all going to be rich with the efficiency building into the economy. Amazingly I’m not having a difficult time using my leisure time but it there doesn’t appear to be vast amounts of it. Something went sideways.

I thought that was North Carolina's specialty?

My dad had a leisure suit.

I cannot recall if UMN had a degree program in "leisure studies" when I finished undergrad in 1982.

I do recall a time or two with beer and frisbees on the quad. There was just something about Spring Quarter and the warmup on Campus. I guess it enver occurred to me that it was possible to get a degree in it.

Armon Gates has really gotten around. He has coached at Northwestern, Oklahoma, Kent State, Loyola-Chicago, Oregon, and Nebraska.

I hope he is a good fit here and can put down some roots!

That photo of Gates is giving me strong Give My Regards to Broad Street energy.

If you were truly at leisure why would you need so many fucking pockets? 🤔
Clearly, they are designed to hold all of the phone #'s you get from hot chicks at the bar. Herb Tarlick knows what I'm talking about.
