WBIT Bracket 2025

There's seriously not one gym in the metro that could host this game? or does it have to be at the host school or nothing? What ever happens if MN gets to the point where they're hosting the NCAA tourney? Would we not get to because of the HS state tournaments?

I’m sure the contract states MSHSL moves for NCAA tournament.

This year’s high school tournament is already working around some scheduling conflicts. It’s starting Tuesday instead of Wednesday. Timberwolves are home 3 games this week so tournament mainly at U of M.

Looking forward to the WBIT. Hope the Gophers make a run. The WBIT is a big step up in terms of competition both from last year's WNIT, and this year's non-conference schedule.

The fact is the Gopher WBB team didn’t do enough to make the NCAA. Whether this was because of a weak non-conference schedule, questionable coaching, lack of hitting important shots, short bench due to injuries, or as I believe a combination of all, the program didn’t make the NCAA. Even if they had, it would be as a lower seed and they would be traveling.

If you want to watch the game in-person go to Toledo. I have driven to Indy several times to watch the team play in the BTT, only to turn around and drive home because the team lost in the 1st round… too cheap to pay for lodging for the whole tournament.

Regarding the high school tournament, either boys or girls. These players have worked hard, won the important games to earn the privilege of playing in the State High School tournament… and they get to play at Williams Arena… they must be thrilled! I personally would not want to take that away from them.

Get off the ‘bubble’ and get firmly planted in the tournament and maybe someday we will again host… do the work!

Go Gophers!!

People just didn't understand there was an actual rule that it needs to be held on campus and if it can't, they can't host. It's been this way for some time.

If they win they will be home on Sunday.

Timberwolves are home on Wednesday and Friday.

Quarterfinals are typically on Wednesday for 4, 3, and 2A, this year it's Tuesday to work around Wolves.
4A plays at Target Center tomorrow.
3A plays at Williams tomorrow
2A plays at Target/Williams tomorrow.
1A plays on Thursday at Target Center

Semi Finals (Televised)
4A Williams on Thursday
3A Williams on Thursday
2A Williams on Friday
1A Williams on Friday

Championships Saturday at Williams

Boys tournament is typically at Target Center and only used Williams for Quarterfinal round.

So, in other words:

Blame the Timberwolves & the NBA!!!!

Win Thursday and we will likely have home games. Toledo looks like they will be a tough opponent. Glad they get to play postseason games.

That depends on who we'd face in the quarterfinals. If Colorado keeps winning, they retain the right to host as a higher seed than Minnesota. So the Gophers might only get to host on Sunday. Then the semifinals and championship are in Indianapolis no matter what.

I forgot that A Johnson went to Colorado too!

Maturi Pavilion has no games this week. But, for some reason the Gophers can't host a game there on Thursday night. Stupid to not work around this.

Nope, if the Gophers win on Thursday, they will play in either Springfield, MO or Tulsa, OK on Sunday.

I know nothing about any of the teams in the bracket, especially the mid-majors, but Colorado could be the top team in the WBIT if they are supposed to be at full-strength?, as I noted when I speculated whether they could end up ranked end up ahead of Minnesota on the bubble, they've had various players injuried through much of the season and a couple of their bad losses were with Frida Formann injured and their best wins were with her in the lineup, and they still played TCU close in the B12 Quarterfinals.

Coach said boy's tournament needs the whole facility for the tournament. I'm assuming they use locker rooms in the PAV for the tournament.

Why would they not be at home on Sunday as the higher seed?

Maybe all the locker rooms are being used by the high school teams playing at Williams and there aren’t any available .

They would really only need one extra locker room for Toledo. The Gopher WBB locker room won't be used by the high schools, so the Gophers have that one.

There have been many years where there were high school games being played at Williams and Maturi simultaneously. Somehow, everyone managed to find a locker.

Frankly, I don't think the department put a lot of work into finding solutions.

Why would they not be at home on Sunday as the higher seed?

I don't think the department put a lot of work into wanting to do that, either.

Hard to say no to MSHSL and say we might have to host the NIT. Not sure why the Timberwolves didn’t move this year.

Last two years they hosted B1G tournament and boys state and NBA worked around it.

All the more reason to make the NCAA next year. Just don’t be a 1-4 seed.

I'd still rather have to play at the 5, 6, 7, or 8 seed than play at the 1, 2, 3, or 4 seed to make the Sweet 16.
Of course the Gophers only had to win one more home game, against Oregon (of course their injured player who couldn't miss any shots got shut down for the season shortly afterwards) or Washington (of course Gophers had to catch them as they were peaking) to likely make the NCAA Tournament.

With all the angst over hosting and seeding, please help me understand why I would not want to be a 1-4 seed in the NCAA.

The top 4 seeded teams host the first two rounds and they don't meet higher seeded teams until either the Sweet 16 or Elite 8.

Help me with the logic... thanks

... the NCAA tournament is not structured to encourage 'cinderella' teams.

It was a joke I made because we would have to work around the MSHSL state boys tournament. Boys would have to move for the Gophers hosting as a 1-4 seed.

St. Thomas will be an option starting next season.

I thought that state tournaments run on a rotating schedule. If so, 2026 boys BB will not interfere with any Gopher post season events. Does not mean girls BB will not conflict. Working around a hockey tournament should not be a problem.

Boys is always last.

WBIT not NIT

According to Kent Youngblood's article in the Star Tribune this morning "...the Gophers would not host a second-round game Sunday officially because the facility needs to be available for both teams the day before the game."

Very simply put...

Aside from this... I wanted to post the article with a 'Click to expand' window, but didn't know how. Can anyone offer a brief tutorial? Thanks.

Not sure why we weren't a 1 seed so we'd at least host the 3rd game if we kept winning. Our NET is 39. The # 1 seeds: Virginia Tech 46, Colorado 58, Saint Joseph 56 and James Madison 84. According to the final bracketology First Four Out were Virginia Tech, St, Josephs, James Madison and UNLV. Next Four Out were Minnesota, Colorado, Arizona and Middle Tennessee. At the very least UNLV should have been a #1 sees instead of Colorado. And if they moved Colorado ahead of UNLV then Minnesota should have been a #1 seed ahead of Colorado. Just a little strange.
