NCAA Bracketology

Not particularly lol. I just knew they already beat the 1 seed yesterday. Maybe I spoke with too much certainty, but it will definitely be interesting if they pull out the win!
Through three quarters, Oregon State is ahead of Portland by ten and looking like they'll steal a spot in the tournament (and move ahead of Minnesota). You might be clairvoyant.

Can the Gophers even host if given the option? Seems like Williams arena is always booked this time of year.

Will you do bracket predictions next week? OSU up late.

Happy to see Oregon State advanced to the NCAA’s. Gotta give coach Rueck his props, a year after the PAC 12 broke up apart and his roster pillaged, his team is back in the tournament. Heck of a coaching job.

believe I saw a twitter saying they lost 73% of minutes played last year and like 82% of their scoring from last year.. hats off to Scott!

Vermont beat Albany to secure an NCAA auto bid today, joining Oregon State as tournament teams the Gophers beat in non-conference play. Doubtful it helps the Gophers get back on the right side of the bubble, especially with Columbia's win today, when a loss might have a stolen a bid from the Ivy League.

FWIW, Beating Oregon State and Vermont is probably not much different than beating Wisconsin and Rutgers since they are only tournament teams by virtue of getting an auto-bid. Vermont probably will finish just short of being a Quad 3 win and will still be a Quad 4 win.

Harvard just beat Princeton thanks to a 44-point game by their superstar, Harmoni Turner. Both them and Columbia should make it. Virginia Tech may end up backing into the "we need a 68th team even if nobody deserved it" spot or Princeton and I have no clue how the First Four (WBIT #1 Seeds) will go.

It looks like they moved the boys' high school tournament games on Thursday this week to Target Center and kept all of the other games at the Barn. Reading the tea leaves, I'm wondering if this means the athletic department knows we will be hosting the first round game of the WBIT, which is also happening Thursday. I guess we'll find out more tomorrow evening!
Where did you see this? According to the MSHSL site, the AAA and AAAA semifinals are at Williams

Oh, interesting. I didn't realize they were splitting between three locations on Thursday. Well maybe we won't host even if we're a top 4 WBIT seed!

With all that happens at Williams at this time of year, it makes me wonder what the plan would be if the Gophers ever played well enough to host the NCAA tournament first round. If I'm Coach P, I'm probably a little annoyed by these scheduling conflicts and not getting priority to have home court advantage in post season play.

Why couldn't we host in Pavilion if they make WBIT? Don't they set it up for basketball for the state tournaments? Just walk over from the locker rooms? Be better to host than go on road for the revenue wouldn't it? I'm still hoping for an NCAA invite but if it is the WBIT you want to be playing in front of your own fans.

Per Kent Youngblood's article yesterday in Strib:

Because Williams Arena is being used for the MSHSL boys basketball tournament next week, the Gophers would likely not be able to host a first-round game.

This is unacceptable. There a plenty of basketball facilities that would be capable of hosting the event or move the boys tournament. There has been 2 weeks to accomplish this.

The WBIT selection show just finished and has confirmed that "due to a facility conflict" the Gophers will be traveling to Toledo for round one despite being the higher seed. We are literally the only higher seed in the bracket that is traveling and giving up home court advantage. Disappointing that this athletics department can't prioritize their own teams. Hope this doesn't leave too sour a taste in Coach P's mouth!

So lame! Only at the U of M would MSHL have priority.

It's guaranteed annual revenue. College gyms across the country are used for state high school tournaments. You can check out the Wisconsin boys basketball tournament at the Kohl Center, March 20-22.

Sweet, I live in the area and will show up live and in person to watch. Sorry TC fans.

Absolutely. You can't kick out the high school tournament. They'd never re-book.

I posted this in the other thread; If MN ever gets to the point where they would host the NCAA tourney you're telling me they can't because of the state tournaments?

It really is ridiculous. There were at least a couple WNIT games I felt we should have hosted last year instead of traveling all over the country, but we couldn't because of a robotics tournament.

If you're the coach, a potential recruit, or a current player considering transferring and you see your athletic department not fully going to bat for your team while other programs might reward your hard work, do you feel 100% motivated to stick around in Minnesota?

The boys games on Saturday at Williams are consolation games. If the Gophers were to host NCAA games, it seems more likely that they could move consolation games. Or the Gopher women could host NCAA at Target Center. But if we’re hosting NCAA games, it means we’re top 16 and there would have been far more butts in the seats all season.
