My guess is someone that nobody has suggested or expected.
That would be a disaster imoMy guess is someone that nobody has suggested or expected.
Like he has to be "one of us"? That one needs to be eliminated as well as a few others.
I'm going to bemaddisappointed if the coaching hire is limited by a pre-determined qualification that unnecessarily limits the candidate pool as was done the last time.
Asuma can be a really good player in the right offense. This one was not it. He is a pass first point guard that Ben stuck in the corner on offense. Asuma has a ways to go but he has the potential.A little off topic but can someone refresh my memory what commitments we having coming in next year? Also I for one hope Isaac Asuma sticks around. I really like his game.
Got it. White coaches only. Otherwise it's DEI.
That would be a fresh idea for a new thread: (Coach X) is a COMPLETE disasterRyan Saunders has a worse career win pct than Ben and has never coached in college... You would entertain that guy??? That would be like combining the hire of Pitino and Johnson. Hiring a guy because his dad was a great coach and has no experience. That would be a complete disaster.
Let's be honest. No matter who is hired there will be immediately a disaster thread created. That would be a fresh idea for a new thread: (Coach X) is a COMPLETE disaster
I was actually impressed with some of the players that Ben was able to recruit. He seemed good at assessing talent and bought in several players that were better than I thought he would have been able to get with his limited HC experience. The problem was in keeping those players. I agree that Ben was not a national figure for the program, but he did seem to be able to win over recruits on a one-on-one basis.Generally teams hire the opposite of what they had before. Pitino had personality but wasn't one of us. Ben was one of us but didn't have the personality to sell the program. I think Coyle goes splashy this time, if he has the money.
Fans love fiery coaches because we only seen them twice a week and we can vent our frustrations vicariously through them as they jump around and scream at refs and players. However, when you have to deal with that every day for 6 months or so, it gets pretty old pretty fast. How about finding somebody near the middle of the Hurley-style rage and the "probably much too Zen" style of Johnson.Fiery is fine, as long as the new coach isn’t a constant whiner and complainer, like the Hurley boys, who have never agreed with any call against their teams, ever!
Look you conveniently ignored the second/third part of my original post to make an asshole comment but it's not the first time or particularly surprising. Ben Johnson was hired for 1 of 2 reasons -- as a DEI hire given the political climate at the time or a way overblown attempt to shoehorn Minnesota connections to a belief it would lead to a mass influx of Minnesota talent. I don't know which it was (certainly not on resume) but either rationale was misguided if it led to hiring an inferior candidate. By the way there were better options under either of those scenarios available. I simply stated I don't want a candidate search limited by any particular criteria. Perhaps you should go back to complaining about refs.
Our current commits are here.A little off topic but can someone refresh my memory what commitments we having coming in next year? Also I for one hope Isaac Asuma sticks around. I really like his game.
I like Ike best when he drives the lane and wish he did that more. He can finish, but I would like to see him kick it out when the situation calls for it.Asuma can be a really good player in the right offense. This one was not it. He is a pass first point guard that Ben stuck in the corner on offense. Asuma has a ways to go but he has the potential.
Overall this is a pretty insane list. There's very little chance of most of these even considering the job.My guess is someone that nobody has suggested or expected.
1. McCollum
2. Wade
3. Medved
If you're going to push race and gender baiting dogwhistles like "DEI" that are being widely used to target women and minorities all over the country....then be prepared to be called out on it. Don't play innocent or act like YOU are the one being unfairly targeted.
I'm not even sure what all this means. But I've wiped the tears off my face after being unfairly targeted. I'll decline to respond any further so this doesn't turn into another OTB pissing match.
Have a nice day stocker08. It's a good day for Gophers basketball!
Just tough when he’s behind Pitino in the same conference and we could have had Dutcher 4 years ago. I’m no Pitino fan.I am guessing it is going to be Medved. I am 100% okay with this. He has had success at CSU. He finds diamonds in the rough, and he has a good group of sophomores who could come along with him. I get we want splashy, but no matter who we get it will be exciting and better than what we had.
He has HC experience: NBA HC experience. Is that transferable to a P4 school? Maybe. Maybe not. Still puts him 3/4 of a step ahead of the last two MBB HC hires.
Hiring a coach with no/little experience as a college head coach for the third hire in a row would be insane. Saunders cannot be a candidate.
100%. And I’m sure most on here are losing their minds with nothing to bitch aboutLet's be honest. No matter who is hired there will be immediately a disaster thread created.
You've always been a reasonable poster, even if we don't agree on a lot in terms of politics. All I am saying is that the term "DEI" is increasingly being used as a dogwhistle to assign blame to women and minorities for problems and issues where it doesn't apply at all....and it's a concerning trend. I won't even go as far as to say that Johnson being black had nothing to do with his hiring. I really have no idea if that was one of the main reasons. Just think that people should step back and take a look at the language that they are using, because terms like "DEI" are being used in some pretty despicable manners to demonize particular groups of people....and it's reckless.
Anyways....I apologize for attacking the way I did. In the end, we all just want what's best for the program.
