***OFFICIAL MINNESOTA VS NORTHWESTERN BIG TEN TOURNAMENT WEAKLING WEDNESDAY IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

So now that this inspiring performance is over, when is the announcement coming that Ben will be back with an extension?

This should be officially now season over correct? Shouldn't even get in a NIT or crown or who knows what is out there it seems.

Scrappy effort by Ben Johnson’s squad today.

Considering all that is coming back hopefully Johnson can use this loss as a teachable moment going into the offseason. 😐

It takes time to build a culture scools. Year Zero! Brick by brick!

Please bring in some NIL money so we can get some skilled players here. Talent gap is huge.
They had some talent last year and they collapsed at the end. Even with talent, you need a coach to translate that talent into winning basketball offensively and defensively. Sorry to say it but we don't have that type of coach.

The players do play hard, so credit to the players and the staff for that. The game plans and the in game decisions along with the talent level being one of the worst I've seen with this program in decades - other than that, the future if we bring Ben back looks... well, I think we know what that will look like, even with an increase in NIL money!

Meanwhile, out in Lobo land little Richard just got named the Mountain West Coach of the Year with his team sitting on 25 wins so far this season.

I forgot that Coyle basically got Pitino the job in New Mexico...

When Pitino says “less than 24 hours later,” he really means “about 15 minutes later.” That’s how much time passed from the moment Minnesota athletic director Mark Coyle informed Pitino the school was going to announce his firing the next day, and when New Mexico AD Eddie Nuñez texted Pitino to let him know he’d be calling in the morning to offer him a new job. If it seems like those two messages must have been coordinated, that’s because to a large degree they were. The timing was the result of unusually open communication between all the principals, lubricated by a maturity shown by Pitino that belied his age. Not for nothing does Coyle call this 38-year-old veteran head coach “a wise, old soul.”

When Nuñez called Coyle to ask his opinion on the coach he was in the process of firing, Coyle gave an unabashed endorsement. Before taking over at Minnesota, Coyle had been the AD at Boise State for four years, so he understands what it takes to win in the Mountain West Conference. “I had zero hesitation about recommending him,” Coyle says. “Richard is the definition of low ego, high output. I told Eddie what a great person he is, that he does things the right way and has great humility, and he would be a great ambassador for New Mexico basketball. I just thought he would be a terrific fit.”

Most of those obscure tournaments are pay-to-play formats. I don’t see the Gophers doing that.
Better said, I don’t want the Gophers doing that.

This game gives Coyle the upper hand to say enough is enough and no pressure from media, etc should sway him otherwise. We need to take advantage of our season ending now and not wait a week or so.
Lost 5 of the last 6 the last two years. Kind of ruins the "he keeps them engaged, they don't quit!" narrative. But sure let's run it back.

And dont forget, poor Ben lost 2 of his 3 top scorers to season-ending injury.
Look, they clearly would have beaten North Texas and Wichita if not for the devastating injury to star player Mike Mitchell. Marcus Fuller was just talking about this yesterday.

They'd be a LOCK for the Crown with those two wins. Poor Ben!
