Per ESPN:

Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry has accepted a role with his alma mater Davidson College as an assistant general manager for the basketball programs, university officials told ESPN.

Curry becomes the first active player in U.S. major professional sports to take an administrative job with an NCAA team.

In his new role, Curry, who played three seasons at Davidson (2006-09), will provide guidance to the men's and women's teams based on his college and professional experience.

He'll work with general manager Austin Buntz, a former Under Armour global sports marketing team member. Curry first signed with Under Armour in 2013 and launched his own Curry Brand as a standalone venture with the company in 2020. He also signed a lifetime contract shoe deal in recent years.

Curry, his wife Ayesha Curry and longtime Davidson College supporters Don, Matt and Erica Berman will also start an eight-figure fund for both the men and women's programs. Matt Berman, who played soccer for three seasons at Davidson as a member of the 2005 class, will serve as another assistant GM.

"The Davidson experience is top notch," Curry said in a statement released by the school. "My journey from when I got to Davidson in 2006 to now demonstrated that I had the opportunity to play basketball at the highest level, got a great education, an amazing network through the Davidson alumni and continue to wave the Davidson flag. I want very talented, high character student athletes to have that same experience."

Go Gophers!!

This could be a model. The Gophs have numerous alums with business acumen, marketing ability, and personality. Didn't Trevor Winter graduate with a degree from the Carlson School? Shoot him an offer. The challenge of a lifetime. Or Trent Tucker. He has a GREAT personality. What the heck do they have Whalen doing?

Trevor Winter? His kid plays for wisconsin. We can probably find a better fit than him. ;)

More importantly, we are seeing mid-majors (St Bonnie's, now Davidson, etc.) not only does Davidson have a General Manager, they have two assistant GM's!

Meanwhile, Coyle is busy sending frustrated text's to his wife that we aren't in the Tournament.

I thought of that. He's probably wondering how he can attone for that, and this is it. This is his attonement.

Besides, Thompson's son went to IU, and dad still broadcasts for the U. All's fair in love and war.

Dream situation for a school like Davidson. Although, if Curry is on staff can he contribute to NIL/Pay for Play funds? Would seem like that would be a violation. Obviously having him associated with the program will be a huge draw but would think his deep pockets would be even more advantageous to the program.

Yet another reason the school needs to embrace the Clem years. John Thomas, Quincy Lewis, and Bobby Jackson are accomplished former players with NBA ties that could offer something to the program in a non-coaching capacity. There are surely others that I've not identified off the top of my head.

At one time at least, I thought Q worked for the U. Do I remember that wrong?

Definitely did. Pretty sure it was developepment but could have been something more directly with athletes. I thought he left for a job with the Jazz.

Who's that rich former football player used to be on CNBC and wanted to be AD? Get him.

Coyle fired Whalen in the middle of the tourney, which was absolutely uncalled for. Then he didn’t have the guts to call it that. Mutual agreement my ass! That she recommended her replacement, and still comes to Gopher WBB games is an indication of her personality. But her decision to pass on Coyles "generous" offer to be some form of athletics department consultant or whatever he called it, indicates working with Coyle is not high on her list of things to do!

The most important part in this post is "eight figure fund" for what appears to be the men’s and women’s BB teams! So they will have over 10M to toss at their BB recruitment? That’s 20 Pharrell Paynes a year? Bet they won’t have any trouble attracting coaching candidates! These programs are doing this, and MN NIL is selling T shirts?

I don't know what Steph Curry's actual job will be. But in the new world of NIL and free transfers, programs will definitely need people to track and even scout potential transfers throughout the year -- from programs above and below them -- and think about how much each might fit into the budget. I hope we can find someone better than a part-time ambassador to do that for us.
