All Things 2025 Minnesota Vikings Off-Season Thread

If this happens, then it puts to rest any chance that Darnold will be back.
yep......and then you go another defensive tackle at pick 24 and this defense then can become crazy good.

Especially if Dallas Turner comes on.

they'd still have a ton of money to look at an offensive guard.

Why would you need another DT at that point? They run a 3-4 and Harrison Phillips is pretty good.

I agree and I would hope that such clamor from the fanbase would be completely ignored.

That's too simplistic of a view point. Maybe by that point if healthy with full offseason prep and training camp, they may believe he's "truly ready". He'll have been in the building for 18 months at that point, that's a lot of prep time and I trust they will have a gage on his abilities.

Why can't it be like Daunte Culpepper? On the bench for all of Year 1. Took the Vikes to the NFC Championship his 1st year playing. Denver and Washington had true rookies last year. It worked out, leading both to the post-season.

As for "how the Wilfs do things" I think they have demonstrated that they let the football staff make whatever is the best decision on what to do without any interference.
If they don't then they hired the wrong people to begin with.
Bold 1: the main difference for me is that McCarthy wasn't on the bench in a traditional way. He couldn't practice physically all year, just mental reps. That's not the same thing.

Clearly, Daniels at Wash and Stroud last year for Houston had great true rookie seasons. So that's obviously possible. But so are Williams at Chicago and Young at Carolina.

Bold 2: I agree 100% that Wilfs don't interfere. Because they don't have to. They set the decree from leadership early on about baseline philosophy and expectations and they hired coaches who agree to those from the start. That we don't tank, that we try to win games to the best of our ability, that we deliver winning seasons to our fanbase. The Vikings way.

That doesn’t make any sense when rookies start and have success in the NFL with less time with the team than JJM has had.
I respect your opinion and you're probably more likely to be right than me. We will see

My thing is also predicated on having Darnold, DJones, or someone of that caliber on the roster still. If there isn't, then obviously McCarthy will start week 1.

My gut just says he won't, until later in the year.

because phillips is overused and they run him into the ground.

Also, we need another one who brings pressure from the middle.

Philly rotated their defensive line with many players. We have no depth to speak of.

Signing Milton would make it more palatable to use #24 on a stud OG if Tyler Booker is there and fill a huge hole on our other line.

If they sign him, they have too many other needs to take another DT with their 1st round pick.

I think it's a near lock they trade out of the 1st round. They also need to take a RB in the first 3 rounds. Much like they needed to take a QB in last years loaded QB class, they need to take a RB in this year's loaded RB class.

I don’t hate this but the Vikings still need to find a younger, bigger RB who can handle goal line carries.

They'll draft at least one RB. If they had more picks they would probably take 2. As it is, they'll have to settle for one, taken on Day 3, where they can probably actually get an impact player considering how deep this draft is at RB

* Davante Adams to the Rams on a 2-year deal.

* Bills sign Josh Allen to 6-year, $330M deal with $250M guaranteed.

DK Metcalf traded to the Steelers for a 2nd Round Pick.

Seattle manages to clear some serious salary cap and collect a couple nice draft picks so far. Not too bad. And they appear to be the front runners for Darnold. Not surprised to see them move Geno, he wasn't McDonald's guy.

Vikings appear to be closing in on DT Jonathan Allen from Washington. He's 30 yrs old, but he can wreak havoc on the interior DL; better against the pass than the run. Hopefully still has some juice left in the tank

I wonder what this means for Milton Williams.

Edit: Signing with NE

The Seattle Seahawks are signing former Minnesota Vikings passer Sam Darnold to be their new quarterback, sources told Adam Schefter.

The deal is for three years at $110.5 million with $55 million guaranteed, Schefter

Not exactly a bank-breaking deal, but good for Darnold.

I hope the Vikings find a way to keep Daniel Jones. I almost think they have to; going into this fall with JJM and some career low-mid level backup is a little frightening

That's a ton of money for him. He played well last year but he's not top tier.

Cam Bynum moving on, to the Indy Colts. 4 yrs, $60M. I know the Vikings had worked hard a year ago or so to sign him.

I would guess the Vikings knew they were going to get outbid and thus signed Theo Jackson; they must think highly of Jackson to let Bynum leave the building. Bynum has made himself into a very, very solid NFL Safety.

I would expect multiple CB signings on the way, not stopping at I. Rodgers by any stretch

Bynum is a big loss...bummer.
