I know there are probably some threads dedicated to Adam Weber already but I just wanted to offer congratulations and respect for Adam Weber surpassing 10,000 yards passing in his career. He will pass Chuck Long and Brett Basanez and likely finish 3rd in Big10 history. It is unfortunate that the Gophers have been unable to win more games but Weber deserves commendation and credit for this achievement.

The biggest difference between Iowa and Minnesota is this.

In 2008 the gophers and hawks played each other in the metrodome. Minnesota started freshman adam Weber. Iowa started something called Christiansen. It was the worst collection of QBs to ever start a Big Ten game collectively.

Iowa did not have that same starting QB after game 4 the next year. Minnesota still has the same QB.

Well, that's a big difference, sure.

I'd say the biggest difference, though, is Iowa has developed a whole crew of good players, particularly on defense, whereas we really haven't. That's a testament to Iowa's fine coaching and a massive knock on our regime since 2007.

This is statement is completely inaccurate. In 2008, Ricky Stanzi was starting for Iowa against Minnesota and had been the full-time starter since the 5th game of the season against Northwestern. Adam Weber was a sophomore in terms football eligibility and he is a 5th year senior this season. Jake Christensen's last start was against Pittsburgh, which was the 4th game of the season in 2008 for the Hawkeyes.

You missed the memo?

Haven't you heard or been paying attention? It's all smoke and mirrors. Weber is actually one of the worst QB's in the history of the Big Ten. Most of his stats are accumulated in something apparently called "garbage time" (which is actually when most QB's throw a majority of their INT's, not TDs). And don't forget, he's had the luxury of a number of first round draft pick talented WR's over the course of his career.

Take this year for example; he's had the luxury of having the following primary passing targets:

> A kid who played one year of HS at the WR position
> A kid who is the backup QB and this year is his first experience playing WR EVER
> A kid who is so talented at WR that he was moved to DB two weeks ago
> A kid who will be playing basketball barely over a month from now

All the above talent to work with his year and he's only passed for just under 2000 yards, 17 TD and 7 INT.

I hope you see the light now. Weber is clearly incompetent and inept.

My mistake. I remembered incorrectly. Now I remember in 2007 when Iowa fans were calling for Drew Tate to be benched for this Christiansen fellow. That is what I was thinking of.

Haha well if that is how people on this board actually feel then so be it. Weber has had ups and downs but to pass for more than 10,000 yards in a career then he must be doing some things right.

Weber is going to break the record for most losses by a starting QB in the history of college football. Probably an unbreakable record. As no QB who will lose 35 games will ever be allowed to start that many games again.

Stats are for losers

San Diego Chargers:

Total offense: 1st
Total Defense: 1st

2 Wins, 5 losses.

I'd love to see Adam's numbers from just when the game was within 2 possessions (when it mattered) and playing the opposing team's first string defense.

I'm not sure I've ever seen a player with such a stark difference between his stats and how good he actually is.

How can you reasonably blame all of these losses on Weber? Yes, Weber has made mistakes and QB's, as leaders, are judged in many ways on wins and losses but he is not the major reason Minnesota is losing games this season. The Gopher defense and coaching deserve much of the blame, imo.

Wrong again. Drew Tate was a senior in 2006 and played his last game against Texas in the Alamo Bowl. Christensen was the starter in 2007 and started against Maine and Pittsburgh in 2008. He played in the 4th quarter against Iowa State and in garbage time against Florida International.

When the majority of the attending fans can complete more passes than the starting QB (with the exception of yesterdays game) you need to find a new guy.

Haha well you should go talk to Jeff Horton and see if he well let you walk-on. You cannot be serious.

Actually, you're still wrong. Drew Tate started the game in the Dome in 2006 (against Bryan Cupito). IA fans were wanting Christianson to play. He did and threw a pick. Tate and Cupito graduated.

Christianson was the starter for Iowa in 2007. He started against us (and Adam Weber) in Kinnick Stadium and a 1-10 MN team gave Iowa all it wanted. IA won a close game.

Fast forward to 2008. Christianson is benched. Stanzi is named the starter about 4 games into the season. The entire fortunes of IA football turn around. They cream us 55-0 and whip South Carolina in the Outback Bowl. Then go to the Orange Bowl in 2009, while we continue to muddle along, using three offensive coordinators in Weber's four years.

Does that clear it up a little?

Overall, I think your point is IA made a QB change and their program moved upward. We didn't and we've lost a lot of games. I can't argue with that, especially with a playmaker like MarQueis Gray at the ready for two of those years.

Wisconsin did the same thing, replacing Scheerer (sp.?) with Tolzien. And still the Gophers remain steadfast in their refusal to even let anyone else take a snap, no matter how out of hand the game is.

Well, here we go again -- everyone wants to rip Weber some more on here. It's really low class by you guys to just continue to rip Weber on the message board like this.

Thanks PapaHawk - I agree that 10,000 yards and several all-time records are quite an achievement for Adam, and although it would have been nice to win more games while he was here, he did the best he could and gave Gopher fans SOMETHING to be happy about the last 4 years.

Defend Weber all you want. I expect more from someone that has started more than 40 games. He still makes one terrible throw for every good one and he's made no progress since his Freshman year.

Weber is like Favre without the talent. Play long enough and you'll set a lot of records.

Some Minnesota Gopher fans deseve these 1-11 records. Weber has been a GREAT kid and college athlete who has had the misfortune of playing for a totally incompetent coach named brewster. That coach was hired by a totally incopetent athletc director. Any Minnesota fan who endlessly bashes a college kid totally deserves a lot of 1-11 records.

This abuse of a college athlete who has done as much as Weber is truely pathetic. I am ashamed of these Weber bashers. People like them do make me ashamed of the lack of respect for some great kids who wear the Minnesota colors. Never let the bashers get you down Mr Weber...NEVER let the bashers get you down. We have entirely too many 1-11 type fans here in Minnestoa. It always comes back to haunt us.

Beware of the bashing fans in Minnesota recruits...beware of the bashers.

If we were still running the spread, which Gray was recruited for, I could see your point. If he were truly the best QB on the team to run the mishmash of systems Brewster has been trying use for the last few years I think we would have seen him out there more.

Perhaps we'll see what he's got next season, assuming that the new coach doesn't make him a full-time WR.

Probably neither incompetent nor inept.

Simply not a very good Big 10 QB - save for those that enjoy statistics.

Yesterday were prime examples, again - balls in the dirt, low and outside, thwoing into triple coverage, not getting rid of the ball in the endzone.

You can have all the stats you want. Give me Tolzien and wins.

Amen............I agree with this take 100 per cent.

any competent coach would've benched Weber a long time ago!

Well why didn't he then? He was here 4 years - that's a lot of time to find someone else if he felt that Weber wasn't good enough. The obvious reason is he didn't have anyone any better than Adam. If Gray would have been the QB this year, we would have done no better, but at least he would have had some experience for next year.

Easily solved

I have an idea. Pretty easy to clear this up.

If you don't trust the coaches that see them every day in practice, regarding who should be starting, how about this?

Ask McKnight and Lair, among others, who they would rather have throwing them the ball; Gray or Weber?

Maybe that would help clear things up for you?

Tough thread for Rosemountian. But never let the facts get in the way.

This.

During Weber's 4 years there is not very many teams he would have started on in the Big 10. I think he has had 1 decent season and a few good games sprinkled in throughout the 4 years. I hope we hire Leach and all of his records are broken.

I'll give you that.. If Leach is brought in here.. I wouldn't be surprised to see Web's record broken in the next 5 years. I was gonna say 2, but I don't think Gray could average over 5,000 yards a season even with Leach. With all due respect to both.
