Does ANYONE have any idea regarding a realistic type of coach to come in and turn around this TERRIBLE program? I don't mean the Dungy rumors, but semi-realistic ones.

What are people hearing?

We are truly a horribly coached team, and the worst in the B10, as well as in the country.

I would welcome any info -- thanks in advance!

Reading this board it sounds like everyone thinks they've got the right ideas to fix everything.

Realistically - I think we'll probably look at successful lower-division coaches much in the same way OSU did with Tressel (wasn't he a DII or DIII coach before OSU?).

Marooned -- thanks I was wondering if they would consider that route. Got any idea who'd be in that mix?

Drinks, your witticisms aside, does anyone have any clue who we may look at or who might actually take the reins?

Sorry, I was snippy. I'm not in a good mood.
Al Golden from Temple seems to be the current board favorite.

I don't know what kind of info you actually expect to get starting a thread like this. It will not be any different than all the other threads.

Drinks - thanks, I was looking for some good names like that to research.

And GopherFan75, I was just looking for something more interesting than fire brewster/bielema is a d*ck, etc. I do like seeing names like Al Golden, or if there were some lower level coaches who are up and comers that might be a good fit. I realize most of us (like me) have no clue who's out there/available/motivated to head to the U, but it does seem like there are a small percentage of GH'ers who might be able to pass along some tidbits.

Mark Richt is another name, although unlikely.
Marc Trestman comes up because of something shooter wrote. Co-ordinators like Kirby smart and Carl pelini have come up. There are many others in older threads.

Right now, there are a lot of coaches polishing up their resumes. It's a BCS job, and there are no inherent disadvantages preventing a new coach from winning, we have first class facilities. It's not one of the top jobs, but it's not a job that no one would want. I'm more inclined to the up-and-comer, but that has risks. Ohio State hired a coach from the I-AA ranks, how did they determine he was the right coach for the job. The other alternative is the big name coach, but that has risks too, we could get someone washed up, or who was merely coasting.

My list...

Harbaugh
Richt
Golden

In that order.

BTW..Edsell is off the list after that poor 2nd half (1st time I got to see them). Same still with Sumlin.

I just want a winner.

My son and I were talking...we wonder if we would be winning finally had Brewster stuck with Dunbar and hired anyone other than Cosgrove. Might be true...not sure.

drinks, Rampage, gophermartin, thanks a ton. There are some v interesting names in that.

I would be surprised if Harbaugh would leave Stanford where he's building a rock-solid program and gets paid, to head to the TC. That being said, he would be the perfect sort of coach for us. Hard-nosed, can coach, and is very direct. What he's done in turning around Stanford is simply astounding.

Carl Pelini sounds interesting, at least based on his resume, and success at turning around down-trodden programs, at the high school, lower division college, and BCS levels. I would imagine his type of football would be smart, hard-nosed football that brings it every week like Nebraska does. Of course, if he could bring Taylor Martinez with him I wouldn't complain. :)

I wonder how much of the success at Nebraska is from Carl vs Bo.

I don't want another Dan Hawkins situation....where Peterson was the real smart guy behind their improved play.

Forgot one.... Mike Bellotti.

So how much cooler is Richt's hotseat after pounding Tennessee? I'm suspecting it's not much cooler.

gophermartin, I am wondering the same thing about Carl Pelini. But at least he has a track record of being a successful HC at the high school level, and successful Assistant at multiple college levels. And would Bellotti have any interest in trying to rebuild a midwestern school? His whole career has been on the west coach. But again, if he could successfully turn around Oregon and lay the foundation for that power that is now, he's exactly the type of guy we need.

Regardless, I hope the next HC can get our big'uns to play big. We have heft along both sides of the ball, but they don't seem a)strong or b)well-coached (no surprise there). But there's no reason our d-line should be on roller-skates all game long vs the likes of NIU or most B10 school; likewise there's no reason we shouldn't be able to somewhat successfully open holes for our running game.

SOmeone smarter than me can correct me...but I think Rich Brooks actually turned the program around at Oregon. But he certainly built it bigger and can recruit and coach.

GM

Ah, my bad, you're right. He took over from Brooks, and went on to become the winningest Ducks coach. I'd still 'settle' for him. hahahaha

Specifically says "realistic" and people still say Harbaugh. YOU'RE STUPID. FFS probably same idiots that loved Brewster coming in here. WE'RE NOT GETTING ANY GOOD COACHES TO COME IN HERE. Leach, because he's pretty desperate and can win without a ton of talent. Otherwise hope you're happy with another bum ass tight ends coach who can recruit for texas. GTFO with your stupid ass Harbaugh talk. Richt? Really? Guy is making almost 3 mil a year signed through '13 and you put his name in there?

pfff hahahaha. oh man poor delusional fans. It's sad really. :(

Mark Richt won a big one at Georgia today, but is 2-4 for the season and will probably drop two or three more. He may be available at season's end, despite being a 75% winner overall. Chris Petersen would be my favorite, but it might take an intervention from heaven to get him here - my guess is he misses the BCS championship game by a hair and will never make that dance. He's only a few years younger than Richt but is much younger in appearance and attitude. It would cost a lot of money to get either of them, but with Nebraska poaching in our territory, starting next year, we are looking at financial collapse in football if we don't bring a big time coach in and start winning.

I guess to me peterson reminds me of monson...maybe that is unfair.

Watching LSU or bsu or even missouri...makes me miss a well coached defense.

Been a while...in Minnesota.

I can't wait for a bonified coach to come here. I agree that we need to spend the$ or we will be left in the dust. That can't happen with $200M in tax payer $ spent on the stadium.

At least I hope.

Gus Bradley D-Cord for the Seattle Seahawks.

He is a defensive mastermind, great at developing talent and knows the area due to being an assistant head coach and D-Cord at NDSU. He played a huge role in building those great NDSU teams in 2006 and 2007. He would be a tremendous hire if you could get him.
