List of Coaches you DON'T want

anyone who worked for WI
jagadinski (sp) always looking for his next job

-Anyone on the current staff.
-Glen Mason
-Jagodzinski
-Bohl
-Mike Grant

This is an easy list

no Jeff Jagodzinski, don't like how his teams play.
Craig Bohl, goes without saying, no recruiting ties to recruiting hot beds that would
bring in enough impact players, that and sketchy rumored personal background.
No Phil Fulmer, we already have enough Fulmer cup points and problems.
No to Ed Orgeron, No Dan Mcarney,
and definately no to Skip Holtz he would sell us out in a heart beat for the next big thing
just like his dad did. Just say no to Skip Holtz

- Les Miles
- Anyone we're thinking of hiring in large part because they have some sort of "association" with the U of M or can "recruit the midwest" as one of their better selling points. (Trestman, Hohensee, Bohl, Nielsen, etc.)

Dungy
Trestman
Bohl
Nielsen
M. Grant
Tice
Richt
Nutt
Sherman

I am just focusing on those whose names come up often around here.

Bohl
Nielsen
M. Grant
Trestman (can't figure out why - just not a fan)
Sumlin (defense???)
Hohensee

Is it just me, or is Houston Nutt the most appropriately named coach in football? The guy just seems about six miles beyond the bend.

I haven't seen Leavitt listed and he'd be on my "no go" list along with Leach and anyone below an FBS assistant. It would have to be one heckuva FCS guy for me to want to go that route.

I don't have a specific set of names, but my list would encapsulate "anyone considered on the basis of their association with the University of Minnesota and/or the state of Minnesota."

And, no, Tony Dungy doesn't count. He's actually done something. But he's not coming here, so it's a moo point. You know, a cow's opinion. Doesn't matter. Moo.

+1

I think Marc Trestman would be a good choice. The guy has been around pro and college ball enough that I think he'd make a good coach. I think he'd do suprisingly well.

Any coach that doesn't want to win now. We've recruited to be a power team let's get it properly implemented. I don't think we have a problem with X's and O's. The problem is play calling, discipline. and execution. That would exclude any spread or option coach.

Les Miles
Craig Bohl
Houston Nutt

If Craigh Bohl is our new head coach we will be in a world of hurt. I don't understand why so many people feel he has done such an outstanding job in Fargo. I am a grad of NDSU and I know about that football program.

With all due respect, Bohl has done some good things, but shown time and time again that he is not ready for a Big 10 job. One day maybe but not now. He has not had a winning season with his own recruits yet, led Bob Babich's recruits to two 10-1 seasons, has had major falling outs with at least three of his main coordinators, and his players have been involved in many DUI cases as well as a major theft ring at Best Buy. 14 people were involved in the theft ring, and I believe 12 of the 14 were on the football team at one time, and one person involved was a starting defensive end.

Not many names but schemes.

I dont want to see a spread coach.

I dont want to see a coach who has been in trouble. Leach, Mangino, ect...

I dont want to see some small college coach who is all of a sudden going to hit it big. The U of M is not the school for that type of guy.

I dont want to see some retread getting his 3rd or 4th shot at coaching if the track record is bad let him go somewhere else.

An experienced coach with a good overall track record would be good like Richt for example.

I have no problem with a top level OC or DC from one of the top programs. I do think its important we get a guy that has been more than a position coach in his career.

I am not high on former NFL guys because the college game is very different but a NFL guy with a College coaching history would be ok.

Here's five guys I would absolutely NOT want to coach the team!

1. Urban Meyer
2. Nick Saban
3. Chris Peterson
4. Mack Brown
5. Tony Dungy

Trestman, Mangino, Bohl among the actual candidates. Also no to Nielson and Mike Grant if they actually are candidates (it's sad if they are.)

Agreed. These guys are a bunch of hacks. If they can't win the SB or NC every year where they are at, how can they possibly succeed at MN???

1. Kevin Cosgrove - the absolute worst. Total hack. Living off the fumes of his long-ago stint at WI. A proven failure in every sense of the word (see NE Cornhuskers).
2. Anyone with ties to the WI program - contrary to popular sentiment around here, they are NOT football genuises over there
3. Trestman - flat-out NO
4. Any former Vikings hack, particularly Lunkhead Tice and Teddy Cottrell - ABSOLUTELY NOT!
5. Mangino - no

Dungy even said that the U should check out Marc Trestman.
