The U on Pharrel Payne: He’s just getting started. 📈

You're again trying to put words in my mouth that I didn't say. Yeah he had other good offers, but you specifically mentioned Izzo. Izzo took a better guard from the same state.

Ben landing 2 players doesn't make him a good recruiter. No one with a B1G winning percentage of .154 through 2 seasons is a good recruiter.

I didn't say he was definitively a good recruiter. But a bad recruiter wouldn't land ANY quality players. You obviously understand there are words between "good" and "bad" though? Maybe "average"?

This guy has a chance to be a transformative player for the Gophers. He came, he stayed, he lead by example and improvement and others followed. He already creates a certain buzz when he makes plays.
What’s a transformative player to you? Honest question? Willie Burton? Bobby Jackson?

OMG. You really had to explain a lot of background there to try and take credit from Ben. It's hard for you to give any credit at all, isn't it? Sorry for your plight.

The whole point of this exercise is that there are middle grounds in life. Things are not just "bad" or "good" - unless you have an agenda. Calling Ben a "bad" recruiter is disingenuous. I'm not saying he has proven to be great, but he is definitely not bad at recruiting HS kids.
His two classes have Ben below #50 in the country and in the bottom half or third of the big tenZ

When did I say he didn't land any quality players? They are very few and far between and landing 1 or 2 does't make you a good recruiter. Finishing last every year doesn't make you an average recruiter.

Our classes have been ranked 12th, 9th, and 12th in the B1G under Ben. That's bad, not average.

Your schtick stinks at this point Sheckie.

What exactly do you get out of this personally by being such a dolorous dude?

My schtick of reality? Sorry, not sorry.

I don't know how fans can continue to support and defend this program which is now the laughing stock of the B1G and all of P6 basketball. I remember when Gopher basketball was fun and relevant not all that long ago.

Gopher basketball relevance is imaginary. In the last forty years, discounting for cheating, they have placed as high as fourth in only three one-off seasons. Never above. Expecting any coach to turn that ship around in a couple seasons is a recipe for disappointment.

You must be pissed this morning that "we" added a quality player at a position of heavy need.

Fun, relevant, and legal is a very long time ago.

That is negated to me because of 93 to 99. Maye be that I have a higher moral set than current Minnesotans.

A. There was no wrongdoing in the years of our Sweet 16 and Elite 8 runs in 89 and 90.
B. The moral aspect is just self-mutilation, IMO. Many powerhouse programs have done much worse since our academic scandal and not even gotten a slap on the wrist. Respect for the NCAA's rulings went out the window many years ago.

Position of heavy need? Sure. Quality? Debatable.

He's an upgrade over Samuels but that's not saying much when every other B1G team started with a better roster and continues to add better players.

I think that's a bit of wanting people to bet on Payne rather than CBJ.

Payne is a beast and Johnson deserves credit for getting him here and some credit for developing him, but Payne has such a unique physical profile that might or might not develop regardless of the coach.

When judging a staff, you need to look at it in the totality. Watch the development of Christie, Carrington, Payne, Thompson, Battle, etc. and looking at that in totality will tell you how are staff can develop talent. You don't just find the most talented kid and make him the litmus test.
I don't disagree with this at all, and I don't believe I was suggesting that it was the litmus test. Agreed that Payne may develop on his own-if he doesn't, that would tell you quite a bit.

When the recruiting season is completely over, where do PJ’s recruiting classes rank? Asking for a friend!

Outside of last year's class, they have pretty much been in the middle of the conference. When has PJ finished last in the B1G, let alone last 2 years in a row? Asking for a friend!

Well Parker Fox had more than 50 D1 offers from Portal. Ben stuck with him despite knee injury one. And knee injury two. I think updates on Parker are important. How is that knee. He was much more vocal and front facing after knee injury one. Maybe just doesn't want to jinx himself. Does anyone have any accurate information about his progress.

Where's the Payne discussion? - asking for a friend
