All Things Minnesota Timberwolves 2022-2023 In-Season Thread

Wolves were without Reid, McDaniels and Gobert. Meant they were out rebounded 48-37. Gobert played while injured on Sunday. It was the main source of that idiotic display. Not sure how much of a difference he would have made but maybe some.

The Wolves and Towns were beasts in that half. Then the Refs started calling touch fouls in the 2nd. Well, a least against the Wolves. Lakers "began their comeback when Towns went to the bench." Who knows what happened but the Free Throws in the 2nd half were 17-3 in favor of L.A. Those 3 came when Davis made a very obvious foul on Conley's 3 pointer, at the end of regulation!

Wonder if they're going fire the ref? :cautious:

Edwards fell on his shoulder in the 1st Half got his shoulder taped but was pretty awful shooting the ball as a result.

Haven't read the thread or online reports yet, but since everybody was convinced that the Wolves would be run off the court last night everything is gonna be very positive right?

I think it was more chucking up bricks over the last 6+ minutes.

You watched the whole game and thought they weren't fouled even once during those shots in the 2nd Half? If they were and hit just one free throw they win.

One less brick they also win. No FG in the last 6 minutes of regulation. THAT's the lead credit for picking up the loss, not the FT disparity (IMO).

Also hoisting up prayers from the outside isn't going to lead to many FT attempts, though it did with .1 in regulation which got them to OT.

That also got them the only free throws they shot in the 2nd Half.

Everybody knew that the Lakers would have an advantage in the paint. No Reid, McDaniels or Gobert assured that. However the "One less brick" applies to both teams and the Wolves actually out shot the Lakers from the floor, the 3 pt. line AND the free throw line.

Spin it all you want, but the 17-3 free throw disparity applies to the Lakers and the refs. It gave the Lakers the win.

I disagree. Not scoring a FG for 8.5 minutes (end of reg - start of OT) is what gave the Wolves the loss.

You should have watched the game, but at least you're happy with the outcome. Otherwise you wouldn't be here at all.

The Wolves weren't going to shoot ANY free throws by playing "hold the ball at the top of the key and jack up some bullshit shot as the shot clock expires" basketball. They abandoned any type of offense for half of the 4th quarter including driving to the basket and attempting a shot which could have gotten them free throws.

The free throw disparity isn't on the refs its on the Wolves offense or attempt at an offense.

How did you conclude that I was happy with the outcome? Where was that ever indicated?

I watched them not score from the field for a long time. That's the main reason they lost, IMO. Home team getting more foul calls? Wow. What a shock.

Excuses are for losers.

Addition by subtraction? I don't think they win yesterday if he had stuck around. I think there is way more than the punch that we are not privy to (yet).

For the Lakers game I think it's a: "Can't win with him, have a snowball's chance in hades to win without him" situation.

B.S. it's not hard to figure out. They quit driving to the basket because it wouldn't result in any free throws only misses or turnovers. Lakers, to their credit, also focused on Towns and made it very difficult to get the ball to him.

Oddly enough, many of the same people who said that the Wolves didn't have a chance are angry that they lost and in overtime at that! ;)

I'm not sure what you getting at by posting what I said earlier. I firmly believe if Gobert had made the trip, they lose in regulation. We'll never know.

They at least had a chance yesterday (much better than the snowballs chance in hades), but they still did lose because they were not able to execute in the 4th Q.

Again, you are misinterpreting emotions so I will spell it out. Not happy. Not angry. Just a little bummed out. Also sleep depraved from the game lasting until midnight.

It would have been nice to have some time off and gear up for the Grizz and ensure that the Jazz don't get a lottery pick this year from the Gobert trade. I hope they win Friday.

Whatever the reason they quit driving to the basket they quit driving to the basket...you aren't getting free throw attempts by turning the ball over every other possession or jacking up stupid 3's.

Even if they hadn't gotten all the calls the lakers did they would have certainly generated more than 3 free throw attempts in the second half and had they made just 1 free throw there is no overtime.

All true.

If before the game started, told the Lakers were going to have a 22-14 FT advantage, I think any Wolves fan would take that in a heartbeat. Plus 4 of those for the Lakers were in the last 8 seconds of OT when they fouled intentionally after Prince missed that good look that would have tied it.

Placing this loss on the FT disparity is missing the boat, IMO.

Again, home team got a few more FT. Wow.

That's what I thought too. Though read that he also got hurt falling in the 1st.
I could have sworn it was in the 3rd qtr. I remember thinking the shoulder will be the excuse used for his putrid play when he was putrid before it.

The evidence of that is severely lacking.

Oh and enough of the "if they only had made one more point" while it's certainly true in and O.T. game that applies to both teams.

What doesn't apply is when a team just gets to take a free throw. That's all on the refs.

ESPN reports says it was early in the 2nd Half. Don't know what his 1st half stats were.

"Anthony Edwards' dunk with 2:36 left in overtime. Edwards scored just nine points - more than 15 below his average - and left the court briefly in the second half to get tape on his left shoulder after taking an early fall."

Which part? That if they had generated more free throws they could have made one? or that they could have gotten a call?

17-3 disparity means obviously the later, because they only got 1.

No Gobert, Reid or McDaniels. Massive free throw disparity in the 4th Quarter. Pretty great game from Towns. He end-up +18 for the game! The only Wolve how was a +. In the 4th, the Lakers started completely denying him the ball. With the Waves shooting badly and they refs ignoring any fouls against them, it worked.

That said, kinda surprising that people are so angry at the Wolves for how they played.

I figured they didn't have a chance going into the game. Thought they played way over their heads to even get it to O.T.

Must have a lot of people out there who either didn't want them to win or was convinced it was a lock for them to beat L.A. in the first place.

How does the 1 point apply to the Lakers? They won anyway, it just took them longer.

Also the fundamental disagreement is that it's "all on the refs". Settle for jumpers, not going to get many trips to the line.

All things considered an OT loss is about as good as you can expect, the problem is having ANOTHER 15 point lead fairly late into a game and blowing it. These late game collapses are keeping us from ever being a top 4 team in the west, cost us a playoff series last season, and cost us the game last night.

iceland is getting increasingly irrational on the wolves. anyone who offers the slight bit of criticism of them he jumps on them, suggests they are cheering against them, or want them to lose. weird.

i fully expect ant and rudy to have big games friday night and we will win.

You think I expected them to win or that I think they are a good team? You don't come over here often huh?

Weird, but nice try though.

That said, if you've been online and read comments on the Strib, Pioneer Press, Twitter etc. and seen the comments from Wolves "Fans" and you think that they all want the Wolves to win? That is indeed beyond weird.

you get very defensive on the wolves and when anyone points out differences with your opinion.

The franchise player played like ass last night. That was your ballgame.

It's not rocket science.

Ant was not having a good game to begin with - and after he fell on his shoulder, every shot he put up was hitting the front of the rim.

I think they just ran out of gas.

But, it also appeared that KAT had some opportunities to drive to the basket in the 4th quarter, but he passed them up. And the ball movement absolutely vanished down the stretch.

so, another Wolves game. that sums it up.

at this point, I don't think I even care if they win Friday, because that means they wind up playing the #1 seed in the first round - and I'm sorry, but there is no freakin' way this team is set up to win a playoff series.
