Would you rather have the Vikings stick with Kirk Cousins or sign Lamar Jackson to a long term deal? I personally think Kirk Cousins fits KOC's offense much better. Lamar is a great talent but our whole scheme would have to change to fit his skillset and he has a high chance of injury. Kirk consistently plays and can get the rock to JJ more often. What are your thoughts?

I don't think I'd want either one on a long term deal. I'd pick Cousins for another 2-3 seasons tops. Like you said, Jackson doesn't fit very well. I can't imagine JJ would be happy with a QB like him. His numbers would certainly go down.

could not agree more

The other obvious notion is that for all of the bitching about Cousins' lack of success in the postseason and his play in big games, LJ8's numbers in the playoffs are MARKEDLY worse than Cousins. Lamar has NOT been good in the playoffs, at all.

It's really -

Kirk, 2 1sts, and ~$15 million or Lamar

If it's already decided that Cousins isn't signing an extension, this is a bit of a false choice. It's a question of trade for Lamar Jackson or trade for the necessary draft pick, either this year or next, to take a QB of the future. If you could ensure me he'll be healthy, I'd take Jackson over the unknown behind door B.

I saw one scenario floated when the Vikes would trade Cousins (maybe to the 49ers) for a 1st-round pick, then use that pick and their own 1st-round pick to made a deal for Lamar.

still don't know how they make the cap work.

I think it's much more likely that they let Cousins walk after the '23 season and draft the QB of the future. maybe sign a veteran QB as a one-year stop-gap while the kid learns the ropes.

Not at that contract. No way.

I'm not ever, ever doing a fully guaranteed $200M+ contract for a QB that misses games every year (including the postseason) and when he does get to the postseason, he's well below average.

No thanks.

I'm assuming his contract demands have/will moderate a bit. If wants fully guaranteed, he's going to have to lower to 3/$135-145 range. If he wants $200 million + he's going to have to drop the fully guaranteed demand.

Cousins completed 67% of his passes this year, and Jackson completed 64%. I was surprised to see Jackson that high. Jackson's running is huge though when it breaks down up front.

If you told me Jackson can play 16 games, I'm taking him over Cousins all day and all night.

I just don't trust him to stay on the field.

Cousins throws into the teeth of the D and on time, Lamar throws against loaded boxes, cover 0, and RPOs. I don't think their completion percentages are comparable. Lamar only threw for 186 YPG thats horrible in the NFL.

Here's the REAL question anyone interested should be asking themselves; the Ravens have historically been one of the best, well-run organizations in the NFL.

Why haven't they gotten him signed yet?

HINT: It can't all be about the money on the deal.
